Speak to the Portrait of Eldritch Diggory
After hearing from Lenora about the portrait which wants to speak to you, you’ll need to head to the Hufflepuff Common Room in order to meet him. Go up to the portrait, and speak to him with /.
The Portrait is of Eldritch Diggory, who believes that the book you found in the Restricted Section might be the key to solving a decades-old murder. He will give you some information, and then tell you to go to his great-niece, Helen Thistlewood, who he believes can solve the mystery with you (and maybe even help you find the missing pages to the book).
Speak to Helen Thistlewood
Helen Thistlewood is a bit further afield than anyone you’ve needed to speak to so far — she is all the way in Upper Hogsfield, north of Hogsmeade. Unless you’ve done independent exploring between missions, you’ll need to walk there from Hogsmeade. As you do, you’ll pass by several points of interest, like Merlin Trials and (once you are nearly to Upper Hogsfield) a magical maze. Now is a good time to explore. Don’t forget to use Revelio to find hidden goodies and tasks!
Once you make it to Upper Hogsfield, you can follow the golden path to Helen Thistlewood. There are four notes strewn about her houes that will tell you more about her, as well as a chest, which you can pick up with /.
Talk to her ( /) and she will tell you about Richard Jackdaw and his lover, Anne Thisbe. After going to meet Anne in the Forbidden Forest, following a trail outlined in some ripped pages (from the book you found in the Restricted Section), Jackdaw wound up dead, and his ghost had no memory of how he died. Lacking evidence to prove her innocence, Anne was convicted of Jackdaw’s murder and sent to Azkaban, where she remains.
Speak to Anne Thisbe in Azkaban
At the end of this conversation, Helen will suggest you go to Azkaban to talk to Anne, hoping that she can give you some information on the whereabouts of Jackdaw’s corpse, where the missing pages should be. After your conversation, she will apparate you into Azkaban. Of note: this is actually the only way to see Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy, and also the only place where you can see Dementors, albeit briefly.
After a cutscene in which Helen uses her Patronus to ward away Dementors, she will take the lead. Simply follow her to the end of the corridor, past the heckling prisoners, to where Anne is imprisoned. She will be on the left side, and after you get close a cutscene will trigger automatically. Anne will tell you that the missing pages are in a cave near Upper Hogsfield, and then lash out at Helen, who will apparate you back to safety (to Upper Hogsfield, as it happens).
Find What Jackdaw Left for Anne
After the cutscene ends, you can head to the cave that Anne mentioned. It is very nearby, you just need to follow your minimap or Charmed Compass to find it.
Once you are in the cave, you’ll be faced with a simple puzzle. Before you engage in it, though, make sure to grab the chest to your right (1), then to burn the vines blocking an alcove using Incendio (2). Once the Alcove is open, you can cast Accio on the handle to get the loot inside (3).
After grabbing the loot, all that is left is the puzzle in front of you. And it isn’t much of a puzzle — all you need to do is case Revelio () in order to reveal which handles to pull using Accio. Once you’ve pulled these 6 handles (3 on each side), the door before you will open.
Go inside and look to the left to read the note that Jackdaw left Anne, revealing that he intended to meet her in a location in the Forbidden Forest, which they would explore together.
Leave the Vault
As you leave the Cave, you’ll be met by a ghost. The ghost of none other than Richard Jackdaw! A conversation with him will start automatically, where he will agree to meet you at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, where he’ll take you to his body, where the missing pages to the book still ought to be.
That concludes this quest — the next Main Story quest is Jackdaw’s Rest, but before you do that, you’ll need to unlock Expelliarmus by completing Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2, so make sure you’ve done the requisite tasks.
