‘Mer-ky’ Depths is an optional quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Nerida Roberts wishes to be a liaison to the merpeople, and gave them a gift to try to start talking with them. There is a major issue in her plan, however — she does not know how to swim, and the merpeople have left her a gift in one of their underwater caves. She is worried that the merpeople will take it the wrong way if she doesn’t retrieve their gift soon, so it will be up to you to check out the cave in her place.

Talk to Nerida Roberts
To start the quest ‘Mer-ky’ Depths, you must speak to Nerida Roberts. If you haven’t unlocked the Boathouse Floo Flame yet, it will take a bit of a walk. Go to the Viaduct Courtyard Floo Flame, then go up one flight of stairs, then go up the stairs to the left (1). Then go to the northeast corner of this courtyard, and you will see a small gate (2). Go through it, and from here it will be a straight path all the way down to the Boathouse, and Nerida will be on your left when you reach it (3).
Talking to her (with /) will begin ‘Mer-ky’ Depths, and she will ask for your help — she wants you to go into a cave belonging to the merpeople, and grab a gift that they left for her inside.
Finding the Leaky Cave
The cave is very easy to find. Simply jump in the water and start swimming west, and before long you will see a white whirlpool in the lake. Swim on top of it and hold / to enter the cave.
Grabbing the Gift
Once inside, you will notice a door in front of you with three butterfly indentations. To open it, you will need to find the three butterflies and bring them to the door. They will be surrounding the water that you came in here from, with two of them being blocked by a wall of web — cast Incendio to get rid of these walls. When you get close to a butterfly, cast Lumos on it to make it follow you, then bring it to the door. Turn off the spell once you’re in front of the door, and the butterfly will lock in place. Once you’ve brought all three butterflies to the door, it will open and reveal a chest.
Open the chest to acquire a Mermish Artifact, and you will be free to leave.
Talk to Nerida
Return to Nerida, who will be in the same spot as when you started the quest. Talk to her to give her the artifact, though you can choose to keep it for yourself.
After speaking with her, you will have completed ‘Mer-ky’ Depths, and have a new outfit to try on!
