Venomous Valour is an optional quest in Hogwarts Legacy. After Duncan Hobhouse gets frightened by a Puffskein, his reputation sank and he became known as a coward — even earning the nickname ‘Puffskein Dunkein.’ He came up with a lie to show he is not a coward, and it will be up to you to retrieve ‘proof’ that he’s telling the truth.
Quest Type: Side Quest
Location: Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower, Base Floor, Hogwarts Castle (map)
To start the quest Venomous Valour, you have to speak to Duncan Hobhouse. To reach him, go to the Transfiguration Courtyard Floo Flame, and head in the door nearby to enter the Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower. He will be to your left as soon as you enter. Talking to him (with /) will begin Venomous Valour, and he will ask for your help — he needs you to find the Hidden Herbology Corridor, grab something in there, and give it to him so he can ‘prove’ that he went inside.
Find the Hidden Herbology Corridor
Getting to the entrance to the Hidden Herbology Corridor will take a bit of a walk. Use the Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame, and run outside. Then, immediately take a sharp right (1), and then another right at the split to go through a doorway (2). From here, continue forward until you reach a fountain, then go through the doorway to the left (3).
Once you’re through it, you will find stairs to go down straight ahead. Once you’re at the bottom, move forward a little bit and there will be a wall covered in leaves to your left. Cast Incendio on the wall, and it will reveal a door. Go to it and hold / to enter the Hidden Herbology Corridor.
Looking for Proof
Once inside, make sure you cast Lumos — there will be black vines throughout this corridor that will both slow you down and damage you if you don’t have the spell up. There will also be torches that you can light up with Incendio to keep the vines at bay, but this is not necessary. Simply go forward through the path, and eventually you will see a large plant.
Walk up to the plant and press / to collect one of its leaves, then use a nearby ladder to leave the corridor. The ladder will take you back to the Greenhouses in Hogwarts — you will now be able to use this exit to go back to the Hidden Herbology Corridor whenever you wish to go back.
Talk to Duncan
Return to Duncan, who will be in the same spot as when you started the quest. Talk to him to give him the leaf, though you will have the option to keep it for yourself.
After speaking with him, you will have completed “Venomous Valour,” and will have a new robe to try on!
