In this walkthrough of the Main Story quest “Beasts Class”, we’ll help you get through Professor Howin’s class, in which you’ll learn to care for magical creatures — these skills will come in handy once you start using the Vivarium.
Quest Type: Main Story
Location: Beasts Classroom, Bell Tower Wing, Hogwarts Castle (map)
You need to reach the Beast Classroom, which is found outside near the Bell Tower Wing. If you don’t have the Floo Flame for the classroom, you should at least have the Flying Class Lawn Floo Flame. Take the closest option and make your way to where the objective marker is indicating — hit () if you’re having trouble finding your way. If you didn’t already have it, make sure you grab the Floo Flame for the class before standing in the gold circle and pressing / to begin the quest.
Brush the Puffskein
When the cutscene ends, you’ll be sitting with Poppy, who lends you a brush so you can nurture the Puffskein. You equip the brush just like you would a spell: press , and then hover the Beast Petting Brush and hold , then tap a face button to assign the brush. You may want to put it on a separate spell diamond from your combat spells.
Once you’ve got the brush ready, use it the same way you would any spell, and you’ll magically brush the Puffskein! Notice that the affection icon —— turns from dark to green once you’ve brushed the beast.
Feed the Puffskein
Now you’ll need to do the same thing with Beast Feed. Add it to one of your Spell Diamonds and “cast” it on the Puffskein, and watch how the hunger icon — — becomes green once you’ve fed the beast. After doing so, a cutscene will play.
Brush a Kneazle & Feed a Kneazle
When the cutscene ends, you’ll need to brush one of the Kneazles. Get close to them by walking through the gate of the pen — the affection and hunger icons should apear above the Kneazle you’re targeting. Use the Beast Petting Brush on one of the Kneazles. While the Kneazle you brushed is enjoying its grooming, target a different Kneazle and use the Beast Feed.
Speak with Professor Howin & Talk with Poppy
Professor Howin will dismiss the class, and then say that she wants a word with you. Walk over to her and press /. After speaking with her, do the same with Poppy, who’s right behind you.
Go with Poppy
When your conversation ends, you’ll need to follow Poppy. Keep an eye out for the Moonstone on the right-hand side of the road as you do so (1). After following her for a bit, a cutscene will start, and you’ll meet Poppy’s rather impressive friend, Highwing the Hippogriff. During the cutscene, you’ll need to push in on the right stick to bow to Highwing when prompted (2).

Feed and Brush Highwing
Just like with the other beasts, you’ll need to use the Beast Petting Brush and the Beast Feed on Highwing. Doing so will cause another conversation with Poppy to start. When it ends, you’ll have completed the quest!
