After completing the Trials of Merlin or Potions Class (whichever you do second), Nellie Oggspire will write to you via Owl Post, telling you that the Gryffindor house ghost, Nearly Headless Nick, wishes to speak to you. He caught wind of the book and its missing pages, and thinks he has an idea to help you find them. He will share what he knows if you do a small favor for him first.

After hearing that Nicholas wants to speak to you, use the Viaduct Courtyard Floo Flame. From here, go up one flight of stairs, then go up the stairs to the left (1). Then go up the stairs to the right and go into the Entrance Hall (2). Once inside, go up either stairs and through the large doors, and he will be immediately to your left (3). Go up and speak to him with /. He reveals that he knows about the missing pages that you’re after, and that he may be able to help. He the requests that you follow him.

Follow Nearly Headless Nick
Simply walk with Nearly Headless Nick, and he will explain how he knows about the book and the missing pages. He will also reveal that he may know who last had the pages. He will take you to this person if you do a small favor for him — he would like for you to acquire some rotten roast beef from the kitchen.
Why rotten roast beef is desirable to ghosts
Acquire Rotten Roast Beef
At the end of your walk with Nicholas, you will be in front of a secret entrance to the kitchen in the shape of a portrait. Walk up to it and hold / to tickle the pear, opening the door. Once inside, head to the far southeast corner of the kitchen — you’ll know you’re close to your destination when your character comments on a “disgusting smell.” The rotten roast beef will be on top of a barrel.
Once you pick it up, Feenky will appear and have a brief conversation with you. Afterwards, walk out of the kitchen and walk up to Nearly Headless Nick to give him the rotten roast beef. After talking to him and watching a cutscene, you will be just outside the northern end of Hogsmeade.
Find the Headless Hunt’s Game
Younow need to find and participate in the Headless Hunt’s Game to meet with Richard Jackdaw. Leave the graveyard you’re in and turn right (1), then speak to Sir Nestor Amset when you see him on your right (2). He will explain the rules of the game to you, and if you complete it, you can speak to Jackdaw.

Playing the Headless Hunt’s Game
To play this game, you will need to find which pumpkin Jackdaw’s head is hiding in, and destroy it with a Basic Cast. There will be one pumpkin that you will see shaking and moving — this will be the one the head is hiding in. There is a much easier way to find the pumpkin, however. Cast Revelio, and break the pumpkin that spell highlights (if you don’t see a pumpkin highlighted, move around and recast the spell until you do). Do this five times, and you will complete the challenge.
Once you complete the Hunt, you will see a cutscene, and will complete the quest. The next Main Story quest is Jackdaw’s Rest, but before you do that, you’ll need to unlock Expelliarmus by completing Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2, so make sure you’ve done the requisite tasks.
