The Golden Path (Main Story) – Hogwarts Legacy

The main story of Hogwarts Legacy is a complex tale of magic, mayhem, and adventure. You’ll swiftly go from learning Accio in Charms class, to fighting goblins and poachers in the woods outside Hogwarts. It can be a lot to take in, but we’ve got you covered! In this guide, we’ll explain how the main story progression works. You’ll also find walkthroughs for all of the main story quests here.

Progressing the Main Story

Making your way through the Golden Path will be the primary way you gain new spells and abilities, especially at the start of the game, Fortunately, the game doesn’t really let you get off the beaten path too much until you’ve unlocked a lot of your core spells. If you’re ever unsure of what you’re supposed to be doing, open the menu and navigate to the Quests tab. There, you can filter your current quests — select the second option from the top (see below) and you’ll be able to view all the main story quests you have available to complete.

Once you’ve gotten a little ways into the game, you may find that you cannot do some quests until you complete prerequisites. You can see the requirements for a given quest by selecting it in the quest menu.

Class Assignments will be one of your main sources of new spells. Therefore, you will sometimes not be able to continue the main story until you’ve done the requisite class assignment(s). This means it’s usually a good idea to do Class Assignments as they come up — assuming you want to continue the main story, that is.

Like most RPGs, there is no time pressure on you accepting quests — however urgent the NPCs might make them sound. Some quests may include a time limit within them (we haven’t confirmed this yet), but there is no specific time in which you have to accept a quest. You can leave that “urgent help” for days if you want! Do note that sometimes quests will only be available at certain times of day, so you may have to wait or show up at the correct time.
