Venomous Revenge is an optional quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Ackley Barnes had a falling out with his business partner, Alfred Lawley, and was kicked out of the business they started. He wants to get revenge by taking Alfred’s prized possession — a Venomous Tentacula that he’s grown from a seedling, which was going to be keystone to their business. Ackley can’t get anywhere near it, but since you’re a student that Alfred doesn’t know, maybe you can.
Quest Type: Side Quest
Location: Outside of The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade (map)
To start the quest Venomous Revenge, you will need to talk to Ackley Barnes. To reach him, go to any Floo Flame in Hogsmeade, and make your way to the back of The Three Broomsticks building — he will be leaning against its wall. Talking with him (with /) will begin Venomous Revenge, and he will ask for your help — he would like for you to sneak into Alfred Lawley’s Cellar, and steal his Venomous Tentacula.
Enter Alfred’s Cellar
To reach the cellar, walk down the stairs on the west side of The Three Brooms building, and turn right when you see the Zonko’s building. The cellar door will be directly ahead from here. Once you go inside you will need to cast Disillusionment almost immediately, so have the spell equipped and ready to cast.
Find the Venomous Tentacula
Once you’re inside, you will notice that Alfred is almost right in front of you. Quickly cast Disillusionment before he can spot you. Then, use a Basic Cast anywhere on the left side of the room to make him walk over there (image 1), and then walk through the doorway in front of you and turn right (image 2). Move forward quickly, as Alfred can walk to this area and spot you if you’re not far enough ahead.
Once you reach a cave-like area, you will be safe to turn off Disillusionment, as Alfred will not come here (image 3).

In the next room, you will see a group of Thornback Scurriours. You can choose to either sneak past them, or fight them (don’t worry, Alfred won’t hear the noise). If you choose to fight them, they shouldn’t give you much of an issue, just keep an eye on any that are burrowing, so they don’t ambush you. An extra bonus for fighting them is that you can explore the room afterwards and get some free Combat Plants and ingredients.
Once the Thornback Scurriours are taken care of (or you decided to sneak past them), take the stairs to the left of where you came in, and you will quickly find the Venomous Tentacula. Grab it, then you will have to walk back in order to leave.
Leaving the Cellar
If you turn left from where you grabbed the Venomous Tentacula, you will see a web wall that you can cast Incendio on, to grab a chest with a piece of gear. Otherwise, just walk back the way you came. Once you reach the first area again, you will need to cast Disillusionment and sneak out, as Alfred will still be there.
To leave quietly, go to the door just ahead of you and cast Alohomora to open it. Once you’ve opened it, quickly make your way to the cellar entrance to leave.
Talk to Ackley
Return to Ackley, who will be in the same spot as when you started the quest. Talk to him to give him the Venomous Tentacula, though you can charge him for it. (There are no consequences for doing so and a lot of galleons you could gain, as we discuss in our How to Make Gold guide.)
After speaking with him, you will have completed Venomous Revenge, and have a new pair of gloves to try on!
