The Plight of the House-Elf – Hogwarts Legacy Quest

The Plight of the House-Elf is an optional quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Professor Weasley sent you an owl letter to inform you that Deek would like to speak with you — he would like for you to check on his friend Tobbs. Tobbs is stuck in a cave full of spiders, so Deek believes this is the perfect opportunity to test your enchanted clothes, as well as help out a friend.

To begin The Plight of the House-Elf, you will need to speak to Deek. Use the Room of Requirement Floo Flame, and he will be to your right. Talking with him (with playstation square button/button xbox x v2) will begin The Plight of the House-Elf, where he will ask for your help — he would like you to check in on his friend Tobbs, a house-elf forced to live in a cave full of spiders.

During the conversation, the Room of Requirement will decide that you need more space, and unlock a second Vivarium for you to put Beasts in.

The cave will be a bit north of Hogwarts. If you happened to have unlocked the Upper Hogsfield Floo Flame, you can use that and fly west to the cave. Otherwise, you can go to Hogsmeade, leave from the northern end, and fly north. The cave will be in the middle of a forest area, and guarded by two Thornback Shooters — they shouldn’t give any problem. When you’re ready, go through the entrance to enter the Spinners Cavern.

Have Incendio or another fire spell equipped: there are going to be plenty of webs to burn down in this cave.

Throughout the cavern, you will occasionally have to deal with a couple of spiders. However, these enemies are weak and will be in small numbers, so they should be quick to clear out.

Once inside, go through the path and you will quickly find a wall of web. Cast Incendio on it and move forward. When you reach a split, turn left and hop across a gap, then turn right and continue down the path.

Hop down a ledge and cast Incendio on the wall of web to your right, then continue forward. Shortly after, you can ignore the branch-off to the left (though, if you do go to this dead end, you will get a peek at an upcoming enemy). When you reach a more open area, there will be another wall of web on your right to cast Incendio on. Then, continue forward through the path — you can ignore any other branch-offs. Eventually you will climb up the edge into another open area, and find the Acromantula.

Acromantula is a massive spider, making him immune to spells that move him, such as Accio. Additionally, Thornback Scurriours and Shooters will come out to aid him. He shouldn’t give you too much issue, however. Just use Ancient Magic when you can, use your most powerful spells, and take out the lesser spiders so that they don’t overwhelm you.

Once the Acromantula is taken care of, climb up the ledge on the west side of the room and cast Incendio on the wall of web. Use a Basic Cast to break a wall just after you jump over a gap, and you will learn the sad truth about Tobbs.

Once you’ve discovered Tobbs, you will need to find the exit from the cavern before you can return to Deek. Go down the ramp to the right, and, when you reach the bottom, jump into the water and swim through the opening in front of you (ignore the quest marker’s arrow telling you to go left). From here, simply keep going forward, and you will reach the entrance of the cave.

Once you’re out of the cavern, return to Deek, who will be in the same spot as when you started the quest. Talk to him to deliver the news about his friend.

After speaking with him, you will have completed The Plight of the House-Elf, and you will now have more space in your Vivarium for Beasts!

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
