Preceptor Seluvis

This rather rude NPC sells a few sorceries, and will sell you Puppet Ashes in exchange for Starlight Shards after you complete the majority of his questline.

Seluvis may be a jerk, but he stays in one place, which is nice. You can find him in his tower, south of Ranni’s Rise in Liurnia of the Lakes.

Seluvis sells spells once you’ve done Step 3 of his quest and returned to him. In addition to the spells listed below, you can give him scrolls (although you should just bring them to Turtle Pope Miriel instead) He’ll sell puppets once you’ve done step 5.

How to Complete Seluvis’s Questline (Puppet Ashes Quest)

Seluvis’s quest is relatively short, and most of it takes place in the Three Sisters in Liurnia of the Lakes — click a step below to see detailed instructions!

Note that once you give Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade, Seluvis will die, so if you want to do his quest, keep that in mind.

Seluvis’s tower will be locked until you join Ranni’s quest and speak with Seluvis at the base of Ranni’s Rise, so step one is to speak with him in his spectral form in Ranni’s tower.

rannis rise map location elden ring — **Ranni’s Rise** is found in the **Three Sisters**, in the northwest of **Liurnia of the Lakes**. You’ll need to make your way through **Caria Manor** and defeat the boss before you can access the **Three Sisters**.

Go to Seluvis’s Rise, which is the southern-most tower in the Three Sisters (see location above). Speak with him until he gives you Seluvis’s Potion.

Now you have three choices:

Speak with Sir Gideon Ofnir in the Roundtable Hold, and let him dispose of the potion. (No reward)
Give the potion to Nepheli Loux. (Eventual reward: Nepheli Loux Puppet Ashes). Note that this will lock you out of completing Nepheli Loux’s quest.
Give the potion to the Dung Eater – you’ll need to have advanced the Dung Eater’s quest enough that he’s in the chair and you’re able to give him Seedbed Curses. At this point, you’ll be able to feed him the potion (Eventual reward: Dung Eater Puppet Ashes). Note that this will lock you out of completing Dung Eater’s quest.

Regardless of what choice you make in Step 3, next teleport back to Ranni’s Rise and leave via the front entrance. Go into the first set of ruins on the left, and use a jumping attack on the section of floor that is colored slightly different to dispel the illusory floor there. Go down the stairs and read the message on the southern side of the room below, then hit the wall to the left of the message to reveal another puppet.

Speak with Seluvis in his tower and confront him about his hidden chambers, exhausting his dialog. He’ll now allow you to exchange Starlight Shards for Puppet Ashes. Purchase all available sorceries and ashes from him.

Once you’ve cleaned out his shop, he’ll ask you to acquire the Amber Starlight Shard, which is found on the Altus Plateau, northeast of the Altus Highway Junction site of grace.

Return to Seluvis’s Rise in Liurnia of the Lakes and give him the Amber Starlight; he’ll give you the Magic Scorpion Charm.

The rest of the quest will give you dialog and some other events, but will not result in more rewards – you’ll also need to absolve yourself at the Church of Vows in order to continue Ranni’s questline.

Quit and reload your save and then speak again with Seluvis, and he’ll give you the Amber Draught, and ask you to give it to Ranni.

Find Ranni in her tower and attempt to give her the draught. She won’t be particularly pleased, and will kill you, Seluvis, and Pidia. You can also continue Ranni’s quest until Seluvis dies, instead of giving her the draught — the outcome is the same, although you’ll miss some dialog (and save yourself a trip to the Church of Vows).

Once Seluvis dies, you can find his Bell Bearing and the Preceptor Armor Set (Hat, Gown, Gloves, Trousers) on his corpse. If you gave Nepheli Loux Seluvis’s Potion, you can then go see Pidia – he’ll also be dead, but if you gave Nepheli Loux the potion you can find the Nepheli Loux Puppet on his corpse.

To reach Pidia, teleport to the Royal Moongazing Grounds site of grace, and exit the grounds via the northern doorway. Take a left and hug the cliff’s edge, and you’ll soon come across a Cerulean Tears loot beetle. Head towards it and chase it off the drop, then drop down again until you’re on the stone roof. Then go to the broken bit of rampart to the southwest indicated below.

You’ll drop down onto a wooden platform, then another to the southeast, and then southeast once more to the ground – well, roof, really – below. You’ll see a hole with a ladder — climb down to find Pidia’s corpse.
