Spells in Elden Ring come in two types: Sorceries and Incantations. Sorceries are cast with a Glintstone Staff, while Incantations require a Sacred Seal.
Spells require FP (the blue bar in the upper left of your HUD) to cast, as well as stamina. Many spells can be held down while casting to continuously cast the spell, though this requires additional FP.
To equip a spell, you must first memorize it at a site of grace. Then, press up on the D-pad to cycle through your memorized spells. You’ll also need to make sure you have your staff or seal equipped and in-hand in order to cast your selected spell.
Like weapons, spells have attribute requirements, and you will be unable to memorize spells that you lack the required attributes for. However, you can still acquire spells you do not yet have the requisite attributes to cast.
