Plague Doctor

By some estimates, as much as 4.5% of the population exhibit significant behaviors of psychopathy, characterized by egocentrism, disinhibition, remorselessness, lack of empathy, and low neuroticism. While the popular understanding of psychopaths imagines them as ruthless, unmoored killers, many psychopaths are high-functioning and successful. Careers with an overrepresentation of psychopaths include lawyers, salesman, law enforcement officers, clergy, and surgeons.

The Plague Doctor is a healer. He goes into plague and violence-ridden places willingly with his spells and potions and dispenses services to the affected populations. He may be seen as a brave soul who risks his own life to help those in dire need. But the Plague Doctor seeks out great suffering not out of a sense of duty, but as way to satiate his desire to engage with violence. Yes, he heals the sick and wounded, but he also weaponizes the disease, decay, and death he cures against his enemies.

The Plague Doctor is a mixed caster, using both arcane and divine spells to execute his craft. He employs Alchemy to assist with his tasks, crafting not only healing medicines, but also elixirs, grenades, and poisons. For his spells, he prefers those that are satisfying painful, violent, and taboo, preferring fire, acid, poison, and necromancy over other options. Like the Mystic Theurge (see References), the Plague Doctor gets access to nearly the entire Wizard spell list.
