How to Expand Inventory – Valheim

One of the biggest challenges in Valheim is moving all the loot you get. And while a big part of this challenge comes from item weight and portal restrictions, inventory slots are also a huge limitation. The game’s full release helps us solve this issue by introducing deeper pockets that greatly expand our inventory slots. This guide will help you unlock these inventory space upgrades.

  • There are 2 inventory expansions
  • Each grants a row of 8 inventory slots
  • Both are purchased from Haldor the trader
  • Unlocked after defeating mid-game bosses

While the ability to expand your inventory was added with the 1.0 Deep North update, you’ll be able to do that long before reaching the final biome by unlocking Wider and Deeper Pockets. Both of these inventory expansions are sold by Haldor the trader. We have a detailed guide for how to find him. In short, you want to explore the Black Forest biome until you see a white bag symbol on your map — that’s Haldor’s spawn location.

If you find Haldor early on in your journey, he won’t sell the inventory upgrades to you. They appear in his shop after you defeat the bosses for the Mountain and Mistlands biomes.

Each of them adds a row of 8 slots to your inventory. You start the game with 32 slots. With both these upgrades, you can get all the way up to 48.

1000 Coins
Deeper Pockets

2000 Coins

Coins are the main currency of Valheim. You can find them inside chests and by defeating certain enemies, like Fulings. But the primary way to get them is to loot assorted valuables like Rubies and Silver Necklaces, and then sell them to Haldor. Considering how expensive the inventory upgrades are, you’ll be wise to hoard all the valuables you can find.
