Valheim 1.0 FAQ, Gamescom Trailer Announcement

The big 1.0 release of Valheim is right around the corner, set for September 9, 2026. For a lot of survival game players, having an end goal isn’t strictly necessary. But if you’re someone who needs a clear goal to work towards, and a way to win the game, this release will finally let you enjoy Valheim in full.

Ahead of the release we get a new development update that reminds us of the big date, shares the release date trailer again, and directs us to an exhaustive 1.0 FAQ section on the game’s site. Beyond that, we’re told that come next week, Iron Gate developers will be visiting Gamescom in Cologne to show off what they’ve been working on. You’ll be able to find their booth in hall 10. During the event, we’ll be getting a new cinematic trailer celebrating the game’s impending launch.

Now, delving into the 1.0 FAQ, we can glean quite a bit of information about Valheim’s full release. The first thing it mentions is that while the new content should mostly work in your old world post-update, you’ll ideally want to create a new world to experience it in full.

We’re promised a certain degree of post-release support, but the wording around it is muted and uncertain, meaning we likely won’t be getting a “3D Terraria” that regularly keeps expanding the game to new height. We’re also warned against expecting any changes to the Ocean biome, so if there were plans to make it into a progression biome at some point, those are no longer in place.

Performance optimizations remain a big priority, but the 1.0 release won’t necessarily make your expansive bases and complicated builds run smoothly. If you’d like to try and alleviate those on your end, you can check out our performance optimization guide. And in the meantime, feel free to refresh your memory of the release date trailer:

1.0 Price Information

Other than that, we’re reminded that Valheim’s price has increased to $29.99 or your regional equivalent leading up to the full release, and that the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and the Xbox family of consoles. You’ll be able to enjoy crossplay between all these platforms, and be able to transfer saves between the Xbox and PC versions.

The full FAQ has some other stuff, like achievement information and how they’ll interact with developer commands, plus a quick section on mod support. So be sure to check it out.

With all that in mind, we’re excited to see the upcoming cinematic trailer and explore the new biome once the 1.0 release does land on our hard drives.
