Diablo 30th Anniversary BlizzCon Announcements

The Diablo franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary at this BlizzCon, and as a result, we’re treated to a veritable avalanche of reveals, announcements, and teasers. The world of Sanctuary may be in a sorry state with the Prime Evils causing all sorts of chaos, but thanks to that, the Diablo series is as strong as it’s ever been. Here’s a quick trailer to celebrate the occasion:

  • Diablo V announced
  • Diablo animated series revealed
  • Season of Hell’s Legacy coming to Diablo IV
  • Amazon coming to Diablo IV
  • Diablo IV coming to Nintendo Switch 2
  • Diablo Immortal collaborates with Spawn’s Todd McFarlane

It seems like Diablo IV launched not that long ago. But it’s actually been out for over three years now. And so, this year’s BlizzCon brings us a huge reveal – Diablo V is on its way and should be landing onto our hard drives in 2029. To get in the appropriate mood, here’s the reveal teaser:

According to the brief description, the fifth entry in the Diablo series will begin with Diablo winning and taking over the world of Sanctuary. And from that low point, you’ll be forging a path to victory that may not be as simple as spinning to win.

The key question this new game will ask is, “what must you become when the world has already fallen?” And this implies tough choices, and probably unique gameplay mechanics related to corruption and possibly the use of various demonic powers. Whatever it is, this seems like an exciting new direction for the franchise. And with the release slated for 2029, Diablo IV will have plenty of time in the spotlight still.

Since Blizzard is not merely a game company, but is actually Blizzard Entertainment, we shouldn’t be shocked when our beloved series go further in the direction of multimedia franchises. We already had the underappreciated WarCraft movie. And now, Blizzard has partnered with Netflix to create an animated Diablo series.

And after that, we’re told of similar projects in the works for the WarCraft and Overwatch franchises.

With Diablo getting ready to take over Sanctuary in Diablo V, Diablo IV’s upcoming Season of Hell’s Legacy, going live September 15, 2026, will be focusing on the three Prime Evils. That’s Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto. And to help us tackle these colossal threats, we’ll be getting together with another familiar face – Deckard Cain.

Deckard’s lost soul will help us redeem the dark wanderers (who used to be the playable characters in the original Diablo) from the torments of the Prime Evils. And with it, we’ll be treated to a nostalgia trip, including such iconic item drops like the Stone of Jordan and a new fight against the Butcher.

Earlier this year, Blizzard shadowdropped the beloved Paladin class into Diablo IV. It also added the Warlock to Diablo IV, Diablo Immortal, and Diablo II: Resurrected. And to further sweeten this exchange, now they’re working on bringing Diablo II’s Amazon class to Diablo IV.

The Amazon will be joining the hero roster in 2027, and bringing with her the javelin weapon type, that’s entirely new to Diablo IV. Amazon’s will have four gameplay archetypes: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger, and Commander and support both bow and javelin playstyles.

The Season of Hell’s Legacy will be arriving to Diablo IV on September 15. And if you own a Nintendo Switch 2, that’s when you’ll be able to join the fray, when the Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection will be release for the console.

This collection bundle includes the base game and its Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. The bundle will be priced at $69.99 or your regional equivalent. Which isn’t that steep considering you’ll be getting the complete bundle of the game and its two expansions.

If you’re more of a mobile gamer, you’ll probably be excited to learn that Diablo Immortal will be getting some love too. In a surprising development, this will come in the form of a collaboration with Todd McFarlane and his iconic Spawn franchise. It’s not exactly clear how that’ll work, but either way, it’s nice to see.
