As you start your first playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re presented with an in-depth character creator to help customize your avatar to your heart’s content. With the flexibility to change your class and abilities at any point during the campaign, you would expect similar mercy when it comes to your avatar’s appearance. And you’d be in luck!

Changing Appearance

As of Hotfix #9 on October 6, 2023, you can change your appearance at any time in camp using the magic mirror. To find it at any given camp, just look for the magic door () symbol on the minimap or map screen.

Head there, and click on the glowing magic mirror, which will trigger a short cutscene and then allow you to alter your character’s appearance (as well as gender and name). You cannot change your race or your class here (although the latter you can always change just by chatting with Withers about respeccing).

So, no worries there! No matter how much of an ugly dumpling you might be, you can change your appearance as you need to any time you visit camp. If only it were as easy in real life!

Isn’t there the Magic Mirror at camp? It lets me change my name and appearance. Was this added later, maybe?

Yes, this was added in a later update. This page is outdated.

To my knowledge, I the magic mirror won’t let you change your body type (male, female, buff male, buff female) or genitalia, but it allows for everything else.

Can you do this with non-Tav chars? Like if I want to use Wyll, but I don’t like his hairstyle and he isn’t my Avatar, can I do it with him?

Origin characters aren’t allowed to use the magic mirror, only your custom main character and hirelings. But of course, there’s a mod that allows you to adjust companions.
