Very flexible build. This version is my favorite (aka the one I ran in your durge) but can easily be adapted to whatever: 5 Ranger (Gloom Stalker), 3 Rogue (Assassin), 4 Fighter (Champion).
Ranger spells are not super important. If you don’t have longstrider/enhance leap from any other character, this is a solid one to have those spells. Otherwise, pick whatever you want. The only spell I’d really recommend you get is Ensnaring Strike, but even that isn’t Totally Necessary.
Depending on where you are at in the game in both progression and enjoyment, it might be worth it to make some tweaks…
1 If you like the dual hand xbows:
I have found that the way this character is built is fantastic for everything before the point of no return in Act 2, but is made much stronger starting at that point by switching the Rogue subclass from Assassin to Thief. That’s because the way that most of the combat from the end of Act 2 onward is set up really allow the Thief’s Bonus Action (used as shooting with your off-hand crossbow) to outshine the benefits provided by Assassin subclass.
2 If you want to use one bow instead of dual wielding:
Equip the Club of Hill Giant Strength as one of your melee weapons (found on the top floor of the Arcane tower, you have to break the powerful stool in the corner behind one of the animated armors and it is one of the legs of the stool lol) and equip the Titanstring Bow (adds STR modifier to damage rolls, and adds it an additional time if you use a special arrow). I would not re-class this one into thief like the previous note, since your bonus action will not be able to be used to shoot. If you don’t feel like you need an additional feat, this build could benefit from not taking the fourth level of fighter, and instead finishing the build at lv12 with one level of cleric (war domain). That allows you to use your bonus action to make another attack, and at lv1 cleric it’s like 3 times per long rest.
