Core Setup & Choices
- Race: Human (for historical/thematic accuracy and civil militia feel)
- Background: Outlander or Noble (Outlander fits Strider’s wilderness survival; Noble fits King Elessar)
- Starting Class: Ranger (up to Level 5 for Extra Attack)
- Favoured Enemy: Ranger Knight (gives heavy armor proficiency and History proficiency)
- Natural Explorer: Wasteland Wanderer:-Fire or Urban Tracker
- Fighting Style: Defense or Great Weapon Fighting [1, 2, 3, 4]
Level Progression
- Levels 1–5 (Ranger): Get your core attacks, extra attack at level 5, and utility spells like Longstrider and Hunter’s Mark. [1, 2, 3]
- Level 3 Subclass (Hunter): Choose Colossus Slayer for extra damage against injured foes, matching his finisher style. [1, 2]
- Levels 6–9 (Fighter): Multiclass into Fighter to pick up Battle Master at level 3. Select maneuvers like Trip Attack, Disarming Attack, and Maneuvering Attack to emulate his tactical swordplay.
- Level 10–12 (Ranger or Fighter): Round out with 8 Ranger / 4 Fighter for optimal feat distribution (grab Great Weapon Master or ASI Strength/Constitution).
Spells & Theme
- Stick to non-flashy, grounded spells: Longstrider, Enhance Leap, Fog Cloud, and Speak with Animals. Avoid high-magic evoking spells to keep it lore-friendly.
To capture the true essence of Strider the Ranger, you need a faster, highly mobile build that splits damage between a longbow and a sword.
The ultimate setup for this is a Gloom Stalker Ranger (Level 5) / Thief Rogue (Level 4) / Battle Master Fighter (Level 3) multiclass. This build dominates the first turn of combat, allows you to sprint across the battlefield, and gives you extra actions to shoot a bow and swing a sword in the same turn.

Playstyle & Combat Loop
- The Ambush: Start combat from stealth. Because of Gloom Stalker, you will almost always go first in the turn order.
- Turn One Burst: Open with your ranged bow attacks to thin out enemies using your extra Gloom Stalker attack and Action Surge.
- Close Quarters Pivot: Use your massive movement speed to close the distance. Engage remaining enemies with a Finesse longsword (like Larethian’s Watch or Phalar Aluve) or shortswords
