Invincible Tank Wizard

MULTICLASS BUILD

This build will present one of the tankiest characters in the game. This multiclass build will be viable for Honour Mode as well! You’re also not super reliant on gear to make this a successful build, which is perfect for a multiplayer run.
With this tanky build you will not only be the the Italian defender of old, you will also be able to dish out some damage.
Keep in mind that you can swap your Prepared Spells out of battle anytime so I won’t be always adding them in the written build.
What this build tries to do is to tank as much as possible with Armour of Agathys, which scales up, and block incoming damage with Arcane Ward. To use Arcane Ward succesfully you’ll always want some Abjuration-type spells in your arsenal. That is why you might sometimes see a “weird” spell being added in the guide; it might be an Abjuration-Type spell, Arcane Lock being a prime example.

What Arcane Ward basically does is this: Each time you cast an Abjuration spell, the intensity of the ward increases by the amount of the spell’s Level, up to a maximum of 2x your Wizard level.
Each time you take damage, the ward blocks an amount of damage equal to its intensity, and its stack decreases by 1.
After each long rest, the ward’s stack resets, and becomes the same as your Wizard level.
The build comes down to: 1 Sorcerer / 11 Wizard.

This character is pretty straightforward to play and easy to build so without further dilly-dallying, here we go.
A little disclaimer before we start for the more inexperienced builders among us.
When multiclassing, the latest first level of a class you take will determine which ability will govern the skill in a used scroll, item and Illithid Power!

Since Wizard will be the last class we take our first level in, it means the Wizard’s Intelligence-Ability will determine how strong your use of scrolls, items and Illithid Powers will be!
This is why we’re not putting all too much ability points into Charisma or Wisdom.

Following level progression in the Build Planner will show you the build. This includes the spells taken.
Pick whatever background suits your abilities more. Same goes for the Skill Proficiencies.

Optimal Race: Wood Elf or Githyanki.

Why?: Wood Elfs and Githyanki have more mobility. This makes placement and movement easier throughout the campaign.
