Rauh Base Bosses – Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

In the list below, you can find guides for bosses in the Rauh Base region of the Realm of Shadows (Shadow of the Erdtree expansion). We also have a dedicated Rauh Base Walkthrough to assist you in your travels (or feel free to use the walkthrough menu below).

There are 3 bosses in the Rauh Base, and all of them are optional (like the entire area). However, given that they do hide some great items, they can be well worth detouring to take on.

The Red Bear is an optional NPC opponent tucked away in the Northern Nameless Mausoleum. Much like the other Nameless Mausoleum fighters, he is an NPC that showcases one of the builds possible with the DLC weapons and armor. Specifically, that means that the Red Bear uses the unique Red Bear’s Claw fist weapon. This means that the Red Bear attacks fast and aggressively, making him tough to handle if you aren’t agile enough to back away easily.

However, the Red Bear is also one of the weaker Nameless Mausoleum opponents, with relatively little range and almost no counterplay against a Tarnished with a long weapon. You still have to be careful, as the Claw can stunlock you quite substantially, but so long as you keep to a medium melee distance, you should be able to defeat the Red Bear.

    • Roar of Rugalea

Unlike the Red Bear, Rugalea — the Great Red Bear — is an actual bear. One of two optional Great Red Bears, Rugelea is the stronger of the two, boasting a massive health pool and several additional moves compared to its twin Ralva in Scadu Altus. Based on the terrifying Rune Bears from the base game (which are some of the most devious non-boss enemies in the game), the Great Red Bears are both formidable opponents with tough movesets that require lots of mobility to defeat.

With clever uses of status effects, good on-foot dodging, and good positioning in general, Rugalea’s massive health bar can be carved away with relative ease, so long as you are always wary of just how devastating its claw attacks can be.

At the end of the Scorpion River Catacombs, you can find one of the two optional Death Knight bosses. These lightning-infused enemies attack with high mobility and long combos, meaning that they are best taken on with caution so that you don’t get caught out and punished for it. This is especially true for the Death Knights’ signature grab attack, which not only deals massive damage, but also heals the Death Knight.

However, despite these difficulties, the Death Knights’ both have fairly low HP, and are weak to the common Holy damage, meaning that they can be destroyed fairly easily so long as you avoid their devastating attacks. Since the Scorpion River Catacombs Death Knight has a fantastic medallion that increases mana, it can be well worth taking it on.
