A Brightness from Afar Lagniappe – Alone in the Dark

A Brightness from Afar is a book that Ruth is reading in Alone in the Dark. It is also a Lagniappe, which are the collectible items in the game that reveal additional information to the player. This guide will explain where each character can find the Lagniappe, what other pieces are in its set, and the bonus text it unlocks.

A Brightness from Afar Lagniappe is an interesting one because it will be in a different location depending on which character you’re playing. For both Emily and Edward, it can be found in Chapter 2 at the same location as the character’s cutscene with Ruth. If you’re playing Edward, you will have the Ruth cutscene in the Mezzanine (Image 1). After returning to this area, you will find the book on the table next to the chair where she was sitting (Image 2).

Emily on the other hand, has her first cutscene with Ruth in the library (see image 1 below). Just like the other character, when Emily returns to the library, the book will be on the table next to where Ruth was reading.

A Brightness from Afar is a part of the Vagabonds Lagniappe set. There are two other pieces in this set for players to find:

This set has an interesting theme, being Vagabonds, because the pieces defamiliarize the idea of traveling to the player. If you want a more in-depth defamiliarization, then you’ll have to collect all the pieces and read the bonus text. If you can’t, the text has been provided in the drop-down below.
