A Break at Dawn - Starfield Mission

Sometime after completing Keeping the Peace, a UC security officer in New Atlantis will let you know that Sergeant Yumi wants to talk to you. It’s time to dust off your (imaginary) badge and get back to duty as a security officer.

Location

From the launchpad where you land your ship, head straight and then turn up the ramp on the left into the city. At the top of the ramp, on the right-hand side, you’ll find the entrance to the security office. Head inside to find Sergeant Yumi.

Walkthrough

Once your inside the office, approach Sergeant Yumi inside one of the first booths and tell him your there to work. He’ll tell you to head to a high-class restaurant to resolve a case over a stolen wedding ring.

Speak to Royce at The Dawn’s Roost

Before leaving, feel free to ask any questions about the case. When you are satisfied, leave the office and turn right to cross the plaza to the NAT car, selecting the residential district.

Once you arrive, turn right and head straight into the orange Pioneer Tower. Inside, enter the restaurant on the right and talk to the man running the bar. Question him about the fight and he’ll explain it was between two long-time customers. Afterwards you’ll have a few optional questions, but if you want to proceed choose the top option starting with “I need to find.”

Find Hugo Fournier at Athena Tower

After your conversation, Royce directs you to find Hugo at Athena Tower. From the Pioneer Tower, head straight across the plaza until you reach a white and orange obelisk. Turn right here to enter Athena Tower, where Hugo is on the first floor by the entrance.

Talk to Hugo and he’ll describe the entire situation, including his logic for keeping the ring. Feel free to ask any questions you’d like before telling him his ex is accusing him of theft. From here, you can choose to persuade him to return the ring or decide there is no crime. In either case, you’ll return to Sergeant Yumi afterwards.

Report to Sergeant Yumi

Leave Athena Tower and head left back to the NAT car. Choose the spaceport as your destination, and upon arrival cross the plaza into the security office. Report the result of the case to Sergeant Yumi, and the quest is complete!

I tried to persuade Hugo to let UC Security take the ring and sort it out, he was not having. So to just close the case and be done with it, I let him keep it. After all, the other dude did give it to him as a proposal of marriage and then cheated on him. I think it ultimately should have ended up with Hugo any way, this just expedited that.

One wonders if part of the original purpose of engagement rings was as some sort of security deposit for the relationship… I think you did the right thing 😀

Did he cheat though? As far as I can tell the only evidence was a napkin with the phone number of the waiter at the bar where they were getting engaged. While it’s possible that the number was for such purposes, it’s also possible that it was part of arrangements for the date.

I’m wondering if it’s at all possible to track down the other guy and get his side of the story. Maybe not though since the game doesn’t seem to give you any leads to find him.
