New Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire Episode Reveals Phantom Liberty Cinematic Trailer

CD Projekt Red have never slouched when it comes to reveals, but their newest episode of Night City Wire — titled “Phantom Liberty Special” — might just take the cake. Coming back after a long absence, this new episode of the event show unveiled a new cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion, news about “Update 2.0”, a Behind the Scenes video with Idris Elba, and a teaser for Phantom Liberty‘s new music and main theme, plus Idris Elba himself talking about his role as secret agent Solomon Reed.

Needless to say, the episode is jam-packed with interesting conversations, exciting reveals, and discussions on gameplay and story of Cyberpunk 2077 and its upcoming expansion, Phantom Liberty. Perhaps more exciting than that was the discussion of Update 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077, which promises to revamp the game and revitalize its mechanics in advance of Phantom Liberty. And now we finally have a release date for that long awaited Update 2.0: September 21st.

Among other things, Update 2.0 promises “revamped perk and skill trees” alongside a “completely new Relic skill tree” exclusive to Phantom Liberty. To accommodate these new perks, skills, and Relics, CD PROJEKT RED also revealed an official build calculator that includes all the updated and new information.

But, who are we kidding? The exciting part here is the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC itself, and this episode of Night City Wire was especially devoted to that, seeing as Idris Elba, who plays the DLC’s lead, featured heavily not only in this episode, but also in both of the video unveiled during it, the official Phantom Liberty Cinematic Trailer and a Behind the Scenes video wherein Idris discusses his role and analyzes the aforementioned trailer.

The trailer features Idris as secret agent Solomon Reed, and is the perfect teaser for what is to come with Phantom Liberty, while the Behind the Scenes video featured revealed more about how the trailer and DLC was made, and Idris’s thoughts on it.

The episode of Night City Wire had other reveals as well, such as when the game’s composers, P.T Adamczyk and Jacek Paciorkowski, came on to discuss the role of music in Cyberpunk 2077, especially focusing on the new radio station that is going to be added to the game. They finished the segment (and episode) by dropping a teaser for the main theme of Phantom Liberty and, for what it’s worth, it sounds like an absolute banger.

Needless to say, all this new information is incredibly exciting, and maybe a little overwhelming. Between Phantom Liberty, Update 2.0, a new Cinematic Trailer, and Idris Elba, there is a lot to look forward to as a Cyberpunk 2077 fan. It’s a good time to return to Night City.
