Wither’s Wardrobe of Wayward Friends – Baldur’s Gate 3 Guide

Sometimes, things come up when you’re playing with friends in Baldur’s Gate 3. When someone has to step away, good ol’ Withers will happily store their body in his Wardrobe of Wayward Friends, enabling you to use them like as party members even while your friends are away.

Before anything else, it should be noted that Wither’s Wardrobe of Wayward Friends is a multiplayer-only feature, enabling you to play with your friends’ characters even if they aren’t there. As such, you will need to be in a multiplayer game in order to access Wither’s Wardrobe.

Wither’s Wardrobe of Wayward Friends only appears after your friend has disconnected from the game while in your party. In that circumstance, you just need to talk to their character, who will be frozen in place. After a short narration, you will be able to dismiss them to your camp.

At camp, a Wardrobe will appear near Withers. If you ask him about it, he will explain that he stores your friends’ characters there when they aren’t around, protecting them unless you decide to bring them out to use them as NPCs.

In order to do so, all you need to do is open the wardrobe and drag the character in question out and onto the ground. There, they will appear as a fully controllable member of your adventuring party, and can take the role of main character. If the Wardrobe is empty, it will vanish after removing the last character it is storing.

As of Patch #4, you are also able to store dead player characters in the Wardrobe. This can occur in situations where a player leaves after their character dies, or if they leave and then something else causes their untimely demise.

When you find yourself in that position, all you need to do is speak to Wither’s, select the dialog option “One of my companions has fallen, may I entrust them to your watch for now?” and then select the dialog option for the desired character. This will cause the Wardrobe to appear, where you can pull the deceased party member out to add them to your party (though you might want to make sure you have a Scroll of Revivify in that case).

And that is all you need to know about Wither’s Wardrobe of Wayward Friends! Now, time to collect all your friends’ characters in the Wardrobe so that you can swap between them at will (and try not to let them lose an eye).
