Voodoo Boys: Cyberpunk 2077 Gang

“Voodoo Boys, an enigmatic gang from Pacifica, aren’t just netrunners devoted to uncovering the secrets of the Old Net and behind the Blackwall. They’re also edgerunners: breaking every rule there is to break, and programming viruses that can freeze neural networks.” (CD Projekt Red official forum post).

Secretive gang that protects Pacifica’s local Creole community with a hacking skillset that allows them to excel in the immediate Cyberspace and makes them hunger for the control of the Deep Net and clash with the NetWatch.

  • Controlled Territory: Pacifica‘s Coastview, some parts of the Net.
  • Threat Level: Low (Extreme in Cyberspace).

Cyberpunk 2077 Who Are The Voodoo Boys Gang

(The guide to all gangs of Night City.)

Voodoo Boys have a history going back to before the Haitian diaspora in 2060s. The mysterious gang of talented netrunners started off as a caste associated with the Creole culture, made up primarily of voodoo priests and priestesses. However, new challenges asked for new roles to be filled. In 2062 the destructive weather brought by climate change annihilated Haiti and the refugees fleeing to Night City needed protection, especially in a district like Pacifica, contained and left to deal with its own problems.

That’s how Voodoo Boys became a prominent netrunner gang with a retained mystical voodoo flavor they are known for today: powerful guardians and well-equipped hackers who nonetheless proudly display their voodoo tattoos and wear bones and skulls of small birds and rodents as charms. As a result of focusing their efforts on protecting Haitian interests and safety inside Pacifica’s combat zone against other gangs, corpos, and the Night City government, Voodoo Boys effectively took over the district.

Voodoo Boys can also be recognized for their signature cooling suits and neural implants that demonstrate their constant and intensive visits into the Net. The gang members have mastered the art of hacking databanks and corporate accounts in search of restricted data, as well as the hit-and-run netrunning operations for private contractors. That’s how the gang makes the bulk of their income.

However, these activities as well as the gang’s insatiable curiosity for the Old Net has attracted the attention of the NetWatch who seek to keep the unpredictable and dangerous areas of the cyberspace under their own control.

Voodoo Boys seek to connect with the world beyond the boundaries of the Blackwall, tracking down the free AIs and self-aware ISs, claiming the space of boundless expansion. Because of that, breaching the wall might become a deciding factor in how the future of cyberspace will ultimately look like, and whose hands this fate will fall into. For obvious reasons, the NetWatch does not want this control to go to the Voodoo Boys.

Cyberpunk 2077 Voodoo Boys Beyond The Blackwall

Before V climbs into the ice tub and undertakes the task of breaching the Blackwall, breaking through to the dangerous world beyond, we will meet with Voodoo Boys as they are dealing with a little predicament involving their control over Pacifica.

While other gangs have created pockets of ownership within the abandoned district and NCPD forces try to fly by every now and then to demonstrate their presence, nobody tries to actively challenge Voodoo Boys’ hold over the local community these days. It’s a good situation for the gang that is trying to keep Pacifica’s Creole people shielded from harm. So, it’s understandable that the sudden and mysterious appearance of the Animals gang on the abandoned construction site of the Grand Imperial Mall is quite troubling.

This is when we will get a chance to meet Placide and eventually Brigitte, earning the trust of the gang by resolving their situation with the Animals and learning more about their struggles and ambitious plans within the cyberspace. Eventually, NetWatch will approach you with their side of the story. Whom to trust and whose side to take in this conflict will be ultimately up to you.
