Most units in the game can be afflicted with various effects. How they impact the unit and how they’re removed varies depending on the status effect.

Remedy or Esuna
The unit will become uncontrollable, only using a physical attack on a random ally.
Remedy, Esuna, or getting hit by a physical attack
Prevents the character from using Overdrives, and their Overdrive gauge from charging.
Dispel or Holy Water
Reduces the unit’s chance of hitting with attacks and skills by 10%.
Eye Drops, Remedy, or Esuna
Delays the target’s next turn by a certain amount, depending on the attack used.

Puts a countdown on the unit’s head (5 for characters, varies for enemies), that will decrease by 1 each turn they take. When the counter hits 0, the unit will instantly die.

Prevents the character from taking any action until they’re cured. Getting killed and Stoned at the same time will cause a character to shatter, removing them from the battle completely.
Soft, Remedy, Al Bhed Potion, or Esuna
Causes the unit to lose a percentage of their max HP each turn (25% for characters, varies for enemies).
Antidote, Remedy, Al Bhed Potion, or Esuna
Prevents the unit from using magic. Magic based Overdrives (such as Fury) and Summon will still work.
Echo Screen, Remedy, Al Bhed Potion, or Esuna
Prevents the unit from acting, and increases damage taken from physical and magic attacks by 50%. The duration of Sleep depends on the ability used to inflict it.
Remedy, Esuna, or getting hit by a physical attack
Lowers the rate at which the unit takes a turn.
Dispel, Remedy, or Haste
The unit takes damage from restorative items and magic, but becomes immune to instant death.
Holy Water, Remedy
Halves the unit’s Strength.

Halves the unit’s Magic.

Reduces the unit’s Defense to 0, and nullifies Armored status.

Reduces the unit’s Magic Defense to 0.

Inflicts the unit with Power Break, Magic Break, Armor Break, and Mental Break.

Nullifies one Ice attack or spell done to the character.

Nullifies one Lightning attack or spell done to the character.
NulShock Spell, Mighty Guard, various Mixes, SOS NulShock
Nullifies one Water attack or spell done to the character.
NulTide Spell, Mighty Guard, various Mixes, SOS NulTide
Reduces the physical damage taken by the unit by 50%.
Protect spell, Mighty Guard, various Mixes, Light Curtain, SOS Protect, Auto-Protect
Bounces most spells targeted at the unit back to the caster. If the unit casts a spell on themselves, it’ll bounce to a random enemy.
Reflect spell, Star Curtain, Auto-Reflect
The unit will restore a small amount of HP at the start of any unit’s turn. Lasts for ten of the Regened unit’s turns. The amount restored is random between 100 and 1/10 of the unit’s max HP.
Regen spell, various Mixes, Healing Spring, SOS Regen, Auto-Regen
Reduces the magic damage take by the unit by 50%.
Shell spell, Mighty Guard, various Mixes, Lunar Curtain, SOS Shell, Auto-Shell
