In Palworld, all of your Pals have Work Suitability for different jobs, each with a level showing how well they can perform them. Normally, these levels are set for each Pal, but there is actually a way you can raise the level of their Suitabilities. In this guide, we will go over how to upgrade a Pal in general (which also means upgrading their Partner Skill and Stats) and — on the last upgrade — their Work Suitabilities. We will also cover how you can upgrade some of your Pals to Work Suitability Level 5 to get the best workers possible!
How to Upgrade Your Pals
You only need two things to upgrade your Pals:
A Pal Essence Condenser
Multiple copies of the Pal you want to upgrade
Note: to upgrade the Work Suitability in particular, you will need 117 copies of the Pal you wish to upgrade! This will let you get to the highest rank, upgrading all Work Suitabilities by 1.
How to Build a Pal Essence Condenser
To start the process of upgrading your Pals, you will need to make a Pal Essence Condenser. In order to unlock it, you will need to be at least level 14. Since this requires an Ancient Technology Point to learn, you will also have to defeat at least one boss to be able to learn the structure. (We have plenty of guides for those, covering Alphas like Chillet, Elizabee, Sweepa, Gumoss, and others.)
Once you’ve learned it, you will need 20 Paldium Fragments, 20 Ingots, and 5 Ancient Civilization Parts to build the condenser. Note that it doesn’t require any Pals actively working on it to function once it’s built, so you can place it anywhere, in any of your bases.
How to Use the Condenser to Upgrade Pals
Now that the Condenser is built, it’s time to upgrade your Pals! When using the Pal Condenser, you will use extra copies of a Pal to upgrade it. Something important to keep in mind is that this will permanently sacrifice the Pals being used, so make sure you’re picking the specific Pal you want out of the bunch before upgrading.
There are 4 tiers for upgrading your Pals, and each one will give the Pal a star (which you can see while looking at the Pals in the Pal Essence Condenser, or by simply examining them). Each tier will increase their stats, as well as enhance their Partner Skill. Finally, once the Pal reaches the final tier (Rank 4), all of their Work Suitabilities will go up by 1 level.
The amount of Pals you need to sacrifice increases greatly with each rank:
Rank 1 – 4 Pals
Rank 2 – 16 Pals
Rank 3 – 32 Pals
Rank 4 – 64 Pals
This means that, in order to get any Pal to max rank and improve their Work Suitability, you will need a total of 117 copies of the same Pal (which includes the one you’re upgrading). So, no matter what Pal you want to upgrade or what method you will use to get this many of them, it will likely take a good bit of time to accomplish.
If you have collected enough Dog Coins, you can save yourself some time by buying a Concentrated All-Purpose Pal Extract from a Medal Merchant — this will instantly raise the Rank of your Pal by 1
Level 5 Work Suitability
However, the time invested is not in vain! With this method, it is actually possible to reach level 5 Work Suitability!
Since Rank 4 will increase all of Pal’s Work Suitabilities by 1, you will need a Pal with a Level 4 in a Work Suitability to end up with a Level 5.
Below we will list which Pals you can use for this upgrade, and what job they can achieve it for. So, if you want the best of the best, these are your Pals! Note that not every job has a Pal with level 4 Suitability in it (Lumbering, for example), so the highest level for those will be 4 — which is still worth pursuing.
Here are the Pals you can upgrade to Level 5:
Wumpo – Transporting
Wumpo Botan – Transporting
Blazamut – Mining
Astegon – Mining
Anubis – Handiwork
Jormuntide – Watering
Jormuntide Ignis – Kindling
Lyleen – Planting
Orserk – Electricity
Frostallion – Cooling
Frostallion Noct – Gathering
Now that you know how to unlock the best Work Suitability possible, it’s time to go out and start catching many, many Pals!
