Have you ever ran into a locked chest in Palworld, and you couldn’t open it because you were missing a key? Well now with the Sakurajima update, this will no long be an issue! It is now possible to make a Lockpicking Tool, and once you have it, you can easily open any chest, even if you don’t have the right key. In this guide, we will go over how to access Lockpicking, and how to go about opening chests with it.
How to Unlock Lockpicking
You can unlock lockpicking once you reach Level 16. At this point, you will see a new Ancient Technology you can learn called ‘Lockpicking Tool v1’, which will cost 2 Ancient Technology Points to learn.
Once learned, you can build it at any Workbench or Assembly Line, and the ingredients are fairly simple:
10 Ingots
10 Paldium Fragments
5 Nails
Where Is My Lockpicking Tool?
Once it’s made and you’ve collected it, it will not show up in your inventory. There’s nothing to worry about, however, as you will still have it unlocked, and will now be able to use it to unlock chests.
It’s important to know, however, that the Lockpicking Tool v1 will only allow you to open chests that require a Copper Key. If you want to open any that need a Silver or Gold Key, you will need to learn and craft the Lockpicking Tools v2 and v3, respectively. The better Lockpicks will also cost 2 Ancient Technology Points each, and will then require the same materials to make (you will just need more of them this time).
How to Lockpick
Once you have the tool, you can now lockpick chests that normally require a key to open! When you run into a chest that’s locked, you will have the option to lockpick it, and when you choose that option, you will be taken into a minigame to open the chest.
Lockpicking Minigame
The goal of this game is to turn the pick to a position to where the lock can fully turn. (If you played games like Skyrim, you should already be familiar with how this one works).
To accomplish this, you will want to turn the pick slowly, and then slowly turn the lock as you’re doing it — the more you can turn the lock, the closer you are to having the pick at the right position.
If you try turning the lock too much while the pick is in the wrong position, the tools will break. However, this isn’t a big deal, because you have unlimited uses of the lockpick, and unlimited attempts at the minigame. So if it breaks, just keep trying until you get the chest open.
Once you get used to lockpicking, you can easily open any chest in the game, and not have to worry about gathering keys anymore. Enjoy all of your free loot!
