The Figueroa Hotel in Los Angeles has to be the hippest hotel for video game fans. The hotel’s unique three-part architecture becomes a natural canvas for massive billboard murals. The hotel is conveniently located near the annual E3 event, and the building sides have been decorated with monstrous advertisements for the hottest video games, most notably Max Payne 3, GTA4, GTA 5, Final Fantasy XIII, and of course our beloved Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online. The Skyrim mural was completed back in June 2011, and the Elder Scrolls Online mural the following year in June 2012. At the bottom of this article you can see the Elder Scrolls paintings and watch a time-lapse video showing the Skyrim mural being created.
The Elder Scrolls paintings are insane! And if things weren’t crazy enough, the Figueroa Hotel is supposedly haunted. As far as I know there haven’t been any reports of Draugr or Necromancers hanging out by the ice machines, but there have been reports of televisions turning on by themselves and strange noises coming from hallways and rooms. I suppose it’s not uncommon to associate old buildings with ghosts — especially old hotels (The Shining anyone?). The Figueroa Hotel opened in 1925 and was once a YWCA, so a lot of people have come and gone in the last 88 years. I’m not saying that I believe in ghosts, but seriously — if you were a ghost wouldn’t you want to haunt the Figueroa Hotel? For a budget hotel the place is really cool. With the Elder Scrolls paintings and other amazing video game murals gracing the outside of the building, I can think of far worse places to haunt.
Below you’ll find images showing a sampling of different video game murals that have graced the sides of the Figueroa Hotel over the last few years.
