Valheim Development Update – Deep North and the 1.0 Release

Valheim launched into early access in February 2021, instantly becoming a runaway indie success. Since then, the game has received a couple of major updates adding new biomes, namely Mistlands and Ashlands, and several smaller but still significant content patches that expanded Valheim’s world with new NPCs and mechanics.

Having recently launched another of those content patches, one adding the Bog Witch to the game, the team over at Iron Gate now brings us an exciting development update. There, they let us know that they’re currently busy working on a new biome update for the game. This update will populate the game’s Deep North areas, completing the game’s map and ushering in the 1.0 release.

When the Deep North update drops and Valheim leaves early access, we should also expect to see numerous additions to the game’s other biomes, giving us new things to discover. And in the meantime, we’re left with a cool-looking teaser image showing off the aurora borealis effect we’ll be seeing a lot of while exploring the Deep North biome:

Expect the actual area to be much less serene than this, so enjoy the peace and quiet while you still can.

Beyond that, the development blog directs us to a recent livestream from Iron Gate’s publisher Coffee Stain, and shows off a few impressive Viking dwellings in its customary Build of the Month section. So make sure to check out blog itself if you want to see those.
