Despite there not being official mod support for Valheim, and the game still going through Early Access, there already are thousands of mods available. This creates an opportunity for you to alter and expand your Valheim experience way beyond its original scope. But with so many mods available, it can be hard to pick the right ones. While we can’t tell you exactly which mods will be right for you, this guide will list a number of mods just about anyone can use to enhance their Valheim experience.
Using Mods
The main mod hub for Valheim is located over at Thunderstore.io. You’ll generally want to go through there if you want to install some Valheim mods. If you’re more familiar with Nexusmods, you can find most of the same mods there, but you’ll still need to go through Thunderstore to get some of the critical dependencies. We have a detailed guide describing how to mod Valheim. But the short of it is:
Go to Thunderstore.io, download and install the r2modman mod manager
Get BepInEx for Valheim
Download whatever mods you want, and run them in r2modman with BepInEx as the first mod in the list
Must Have Mods
Below is a list of mods that will make your Valheim experience smoother and more enjoyable. The first 2 are dependency mods that make the others work. And then you’ll get a list of 10 best Valheim mods:
BepInExPack Valheim
Jotunn
PlantEverything
PlantEasily
AzuCraftyBoxes
AzuExtendedPlayerInventory
AutoRepair
FuelEternal
Recycle N Reclaim
Venture Floating Items
Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition
TeleportEverything
Some of these mods come with optional configuration. You can use other mods to add a config menu directly into your game, but the default way to do it is to go through your mod manager.
Navigate to the Config Editor in the sidebar
Select your mod and hit Edit Config
Modify the parameters and hit Save
BepInEx/Jotunn
These two mods won’t directly expand your game functionality. But just about every other mod you will install requires BepInEx to be installed first. And a good number of them also needs the Jotunn library. So before you go out modding, it’s always best to ensure you have these two installed.
Plant Everything
Valheim has pretty strict restrictions on what crops you can grow. Plant Everything mod removes these restrictions. It allows you to use your Cultivator tool to plant pretty much everything that grows in the game – berry bushes, mushrooms, dandelions, previously unplantable trees, and an assortment of decorative plants.

Plant Easily
While manually planting crops one-by-one may be in the spirit of the game, it gets old fast. Plant Easily mod allows you to plant your crops in bulk, and as neat optimized rows. It even comes with adjustable controls for the kind of grid you want to plant.

AzuCraftyBoxes
This simple mod will make your Valheim life significantly more pleasant. AzuCraftyBoxes allows you to use items in nearby chests for crafting, without manually taking them out and sticking them into your inventory first.
AzuExtendedPlayerInventory
Based on this mod’s name you might think it simply makes your inventory larger. And while it can definitely do that, adding up to 5 new rows of item slots to your inventory, that’s not its main feature. Here’s some of the great stuff AzuExtendedPlayerInventory adds:
Dedicated equipment menu
Additional quick slots
Convenient stats menu
Swappable equipment loadouts
Cosmetic transmogrification functionality
Expanded inventory and cosmetic options
AutoRepair
Repairing gear in Valheim is as simple as approaching the appropriate crafting station and hitting the hammer icon numerous times. This doesn’t cost any resources or serve any particular gameplay purpose. AutoRepair removes the need to manually click the button. Simply approach the crafting station that fixes your gear – Workbench, Forge, Black Forge, Galdr Table – and all your gear that can be repaired there will be repaired automatically.
FuelEternal
Keeping your campfires, hearths, and torches lit in Valheim is almost a full-time job. A job full of needless busywork. FuelEternal makes sure that the fuel in your fires never runs out.
Recycle N Reclaim
When it comes to its buildings and furniture, Valheim is very fair in that you can at any time dismantle any build and get the full resources you’ve spent on it back. But for your gear, once you spend the resources to craft it, those resources are gone forever. Recycle N Reclaim changes that, adding a Reclaim button to your crafting station. It allows you to break down any piece of gear into its basic resources.
The mod only considers items in your inventory – not your hotbar
Venture Floating Items
Most items in Valheim sink when you throw them in the water. For the deep ocean waters, this even deletes those items from the game. But even in the more shallow waters it can be tough to get back your items if you somehow drop them there. Venture Floating Items ensures that your items float, making it easy to retrieve them.

Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition
In order to build some complex structure in Valheim, you’ll normally require a bunch of temporary platforms and plenty of scaffolding. Build Camera unshackles your creativity by allowing you to go into free-float mode when building. This makes it much easier to create complex and precise structures.
To use this mod, equip your Hammer and go into the new Build Mode. The default hotkey for that is B. When you hit that key, your camera will decouple from your character, allowing you to float through the air and place items freely.

TeleportEverything
One of the cornerstones of Valheim’s progression is the fact that you can’t move ores and certain other items through portals. In fact, the game’s Ashlands biome even has the official way to bypass these limitations in the form of Stone portals. But while it can be a fun challenge, especially for your first playthrough, at some point you might want to speed things up.
Teleport Everything removes the portal restrictions. It also comes with several distinct modes:
Default – allows you to take everything you want through portals
Vikings Don’t Run – the same as above, but you’re not allowed to use portals with enemies nearby
Take Them With You – allows monsters to occasionally follow you through portals
