Not feeling well? Follow the steps below to easily cure diseases in Skyrim.
As every true son and daughter of Skyrim knows, being Dragonborn can be a nasty business. Exploring dungeons and traversing the Wild is fraught with peril. Whether it be marauding Bandits, lonesome Giants, or a coven of Hagravens, danger exists all around.
That said, not all foes can be faced down with a sword or magic spell, and after awhile even the most careful of adventurers will undoubtedly contract one of the many diseases in Skyrim.
Skyrim diseases can be contracted in a number of ways, most notably from infected foes and traps. In general, there are seven common diseases you should be aware of:
Name, Effect, Source
Ataxia, 25% harder to Lockpick and Pickpocket, Skeevers
Bone Break Fever, -25 Stamina, Bears
Brain Rot, -25 Magicka, Hagravens
Rattles, 50% slower Stamina recovery, Chaurus
Rockjoint, 25% less effective with weapons, Wolves and Foxes
Sanguinare Vampiris, -25 Health and turn to Vampire, Vampires
Witbane, 50% slower Magicka recovery, Sabrecats
Note: With the exception of Sanguinare Vampiris, the above diseases may also be contracted at random from activated traps, so tread cautiously in your dungeon adventures!
How To Cure Diseases In Skyrim
As common as diseases are in-game, it’s relatively easy to find a cure. The key though is to act quickly. To cure diseases in Skyrim do one of the following:
1) Drink a PotionCure Disease potions are your friends, and the Dragonborn should keep a ready supply on hand at all times. These potions can be purchased in alchemy shops throughout Skyrim, but can also be created by either combining Mudcrab Chitin with Vampire Dust or with Charred Skeever Hide.
Note: A Cure Disease potion WILL NOT cure Sanguinare Vampiris — you’ll need to visit a Shrine as explained in #2.
2) Visit a Shrine Activating one of the Shrines to the Divines will cure diseases in Skyrim, including Sanguinare Vampiris (as long as you visit a Shrine within 72 hours of contracting the disease). These Shrines can be found throughout the game — in both cities and the Wild. For a down and dirty reference to the Shrines and their common locations, please refer to the Skyrim Fansite article A Quick Guide To The Nine Divine Shrines In Skyrim.
3) Visit the Vigilants of Stendarr The Vigilants of Stendarr are a fanatical order sworn to destroy all Vampires, Werewolves, and Daedra. The order has a base of operations in the Hall of Vigilant and Stendarr’s Beacon (see maps below), though you may find members at random in-game. A Vigilant of Stendarr will cure diseases in Skyrim — all you have to do is ask.
4) Transform into a Werewolf or Vampire If you’re cursed or blessed (depending on your way of thinking) with either Lycanthopy or Vampirism, you can cure diseases in Skyrim by simply transforming into a Werewolf or Vampire. This transformation will cure every ill from Ataxia to Witbane, but obviously not Sanguinare Vampiris (which, if you think about it wouldn’t make a lot of sense).
