Leatherface Is Not Leaving Dead by Daylight

A couple of weeks back, we reported on what we thought was a reliable leak that claimed The Cannibal (AKA Leatherface) would become unavailable for purchase in Dead by Daylight, à la the Stranger Things characters. Well, for better or for worse, it’s now become clear that the leak was incorrect. On the official Dead by Daylight Facebook page, they addressed the leak, stating that Leatherface isn’t going anywhere for the time being.

This was a fairly big surprise, given how reliable the leak source has been in the past. In fact, many community members have long speculated that @LeaksDbd was something of an “official” source, with BHVR intentionally giving the Twitter account information to leak for marketing purposes. Additionally, there was code found in upcoming patch data that would allow the devs to turn Leatherface’s perks into General Killer perks. Finally, there’s the fact that a new, licensed video game featuring Leatherface is coming out soon, leading everyone to believe that this meant BHVR was losing the license for the character.

Players looking forward to the end of Basement Bubba will be disappointed, but overall this is still a good thing for the game. Leatherface is a popular character, and — like other licensed characters such as Ghost Face and Nemesis — almost certainly one of the primary ways DBD attracts new players. Hopefully, the devs will continue to work on balancing the game to discourage camping (like they did with the changes adding Endurance to Survivor base kit). Besides the camping, Bubba is far from the most frustrating Killer to play against, so long as the map you’re on has windows.

Happy to hear The Cannibal is staying in the store? Bummed about more Basement Bubba? Let us know in the comments!
