Cooked Egg is a Plains-tier food that increases your health by 35, stamina by 12, and health regeneration by 2 hp/tick for 20 minutes. It’s cooked by putting an Egg in a basic Cauldron. Considering the ingredient price and when you get access to them, Cooked Eggs are better used as decoration than actual food.

Acquisition

  • A Cooked Egg is made by cooking an Egg in a level 1 Cauldron
  • You can purchase an Egg from Haldor for 1500 Coins
  • A better way to get Eggs is to buy two from Haldor, hatch them into chickens, and then have them produce more Eggs

Eggs and chickens are a fairly well-hidden system and are actually quite easy to miss. After you defeat Yagluth, the boss of the Plains biome, you’ll need to go back to Haldor the Black Forest trader. Then, you’ll be able to purchase some Eggs from him for 1500 Coins each. Alternatively, when pursuing Hildir’s quests, she’ll send you into the Sealed Tower dungeon in the Plains, where you can find a couple of Eggs. But exploring the tower might actually be more difficult than beating Yagluth.

Technically, you can start cooking Eggs right after you get them. All you need is to prepare them in a Cauldron (Tin x10). But since Cooked Egg is somewhat of a joke food that’s not nearly strong enough to be eaten post-Plains, it’s much better to buy at least two Eggs and hatch them into Hens that will produce more Eggs for you later.

Once you’ve defeated Yagluth in the Plains, you should go to Haldor, the NPC trader from the Black Forest. He’ll be selling Eggs for 1500 Coins each. Get at least two and go back to your base.

You will want to hatch your Eggs first. To do so, place them near a fire source. The whole process can be a bit fiddly. First of all, you want your Eggs to not be in a stack. If you need to split a stack of Eggs, you can shift-click on it. Then, drop your Eggs on the ground. The have the tendency to not go exactly where you want them too, so you may have to repeat the process a few times. You’ll know the Egg is in an appropriate spot when you hover your cursor over it and it says Warm. If it instead says Too Cold, you’ll need to pick the Egg up and place it closer to the fire.

After 30 minutes of warmth, an Egg will hatch and you’ll have your first Chickens. Chickens can drop Feathers and Chicken Meat but with a low chance, so instead of harvesting them, you’ll want to feed them some seeds, Dandelions, or Barley. And after 50 minutes, they will grow into Hens. When fed in a similar way to Chickens, Hens can lay Eggs whenever two of them are close together, enabling your Chicken farm.

When butchered, Hens are guaranteed to drop Chicken Meat. But you’ll need a Butcher Knife (Wood x2, Tin x4) for that. If this seems like too much work, you can also automate the process by creating an AFK Egg farm.

Uses

  • Food

Food

At the point in the game when you can get it Cooked Egg is better used as a decoration than food. But should you decide to eat one, your health will increase by 35, stamina by 12, and health regeneration by 2 hp/tick for 20 minutes. You can combine it with up to two other foods, but it’s impossible to eat more than a single Cooked Egg at a time.

The buff you get from eating a Cooked Egg will initially provide its listed benefits but will fade with time. When there’s just 50% left in its duration, or 10 minutes, the buff icon will flash and you’ll be able to eat another Cooked Egg to refresh the effects.

Helpful Tips

  • The buff it provides makes Cooked Egg worthless as a source of nutrition for the Plains biome and beyond
  • When raising hens and chickens, you can feed them most Seeds, Dandelions, and Barley. For the latter, make sure it’s actual Barley and not Barley Flour
