The Bog Witch is a friendly NPC trader added to Valheim with the 0.219.13 Patch. As her name might suggest, this vendor lives in the Swamp, selling various potions, mushrooms, herbs, and other helpful items. Due to Valheim’s randomized nature, it can be a challenge to find the Bog Witch, as she doesn’t have a predetermined spawn location. But following this guide will allow you to easily find the old crone and avail yourself of her services. We’ve also put together a full list of what she has to offer to a visiting adventurer and how much it’ll cost you.
Here are some quick facts about the Bog Witch:
Creature type: NPC trader
Biome location: Swamp
Specialty: Potion and Feast supplies
Notable items: Scythe Handle, Love Potion, Ivy Seeds
Locating the Bog Witch
Even using this guide, finding the Bog Witch will require some leg work and a bit of luck. As such, we offer you two ways of locating the hag – by exploring your world and by cheating just a little bit.
Finding the Bog Witch Through Exploration
When Valheim creates your game world, it prepares several possible spawn locations for friendly NPCs like the Bog Witch. Whenever you approach one of these potential areas, the NPC spawns there, a special Point of Interest icon appears on your map (a cauldron for the witch) and the other possible locations get discarded. These locations all exist within a certain radius from your world’s center, but can’t be too close to the very middle. This basically means that whenever you’re out looking for an NPC, you should explore the biomes where the NPC can spawn that are close to the world’s center, but not immediately adjacent to it. This gives you plenty of places to explore but saves you from having an NPC spawn in some distant corner of the map you’ll never visit.
The Bog Witch, true to her name, spawns in the Swamp biome. The damp dark place with all the gnarled trees, draugr, leeches, and dungeons. On the map, Swamps are represented by the dark brown patches. You can tell you’re looking at a Swamp if you hover your cursor over it and see the word Swamp written in the top right corner of your map (1).
Once you’ve identified some Swamps in your immediate vicinity, you should head over there (by boat or portal) and start running around. When you approach the Bog Witch’s hut, it will be marked on your map with a large white cauldron. You shouldn’t worry about having to be too close to her spawn – the cauldron appears on your map long before you actually see the hut and will probably initially appear in the greyed-out part of your map (2).
As you move closer to the cauldron icon, you’ll see the witch’s hut. It’s surrounded by a force field of sorts that makes it safe from enemies (3). When within that shimmering dome, you don’t need to worry about the swamp’s creatures attacking you or the witch while you’re trading with her.
The only exception to the safety rule is the Kvastur – the pushy magical broom that constantly sweeps the witch’s hut. The broom is friendly and won’t attack you unless provoked (4). But if you accidentally hit it, or if you get annoyed by it constantly moving your character away from the witch and decide to show it who’s boss, it will turn red and attack you back. The Kvastur is not a very strong enemy, but for defeating it you get a piece of wood, some resin, and the Kvastur Trophy to add to your collection (5). The witch doesn’t care if you fight her Kvastur and won’t stop trading with you or raise her prices if you kill it. Moreover, a new Kvastur will spawn almost immediately after you destroy the first one, making it pretty pointless to fight it once you have the trophy.
Finding the Bog Witch by Looking at the World Map
If you want to skip the part where you’re trudging through endless Swamps in search of the witch, you can instead look under the hood thanks to the valheim-map.world site. This site allows you to upload your world files and then shows you the entire map, complete with possible trader spawn locations. Mind you, it’s pretty resource-intensive and can take a while to load, so if your PC slows down while you’re using it, that just means it’s working.
Once you’re on the site (6), you’ll need to upload your world files there by following the instructions it gives you(7). Once that’s done and your world is loaded, simply check what you want to find – the Bog Witch in this case – and you’ll see all the possible spawn locations for her in your world (8). Just pick one you think would be convenient and go there. This is where the witch will spawn for you.

Trading with the Bog Witch
Once you’ve located the witch, you’ll want to trade with her. You will need Coins for that. You find Coins by defeating certain enemies like Trolls and by looting the treasure chests you find in the world. The game’s traders want a lot of coin for their services, however, and you might need some extra cash to buy everything you need from them. In that case, you can also sell your precious gems like Amber, Pearls, and Rubies to the traders and get a solid chunk of Coins in return.
Patch 0.219.13 which added the Bog Witch revolves around the Feasts feature that lets you create large meals you can share with your party. A lot of what the Bog Witch sells will help you craft some of those Feasts. She also sells some useful potion ingredients, the handle you can use to craft a Scythe that will help with your farming and more.
The Bog Witch even sells Love Potions that troll you, literally. Drinking a Love Potion greatly increases the spawn rate of Troll monsters in your vicinity and makes them stronger than usual. While seemingly just annoying, if you’re strong enough to defeat the Trolls the potion brings to you, you’ll be able to farm some Coins to help with your future purchases.
The Bog Witch Wares
Below you’ll find a table listing everything the Bog Witch sells. Just be aware that some of her goods only become available after you’ve defeated certain bosses. So if you find the witch in your world but don’t see a specific item you want, it just means you need to defeat some more bosses first.
