How to Find Hildir – Valheim

Hildir is a friendly NPC trader added to Valheim with Patch 0.217.14. Hildir was the first NPC trader to be added to the game after its initial Early Access release. Her main specialty is mostly cosmetic clothes your characters can wear around the base. Hildir is also the NPC that gives your characters a number of side quests. These will send you into various unique dungeons where you’ll be facing mini-bosses and liberating Hildir’s chests greatly expanding her stock.

Hildir spawns in the Meadows biome a fair distance away from your base. This can make it very hard for you to find her. The Meadows is the biome you start in and quickly outgrow, so you have very little reason to naturally go out exploring the Meadows that exist a long distance away from your starting point. But don’t worry, this guide will help you find Hildir, pick up her quests, and learn what she can sell you.

Locating Hildir

Running around the Meadows biome in search of Hildir after you’ve already defeated many of the game’s bosses can be a time-consuming challenge. So, we offer you two ways of finding the Dvergr tailor – by sailing around the world and by looking directly at the game’s world map.

Finding Hildir Through Exploration

With the way Valheim’s NPC spawns work, Hildir can be found in a pretty narrow ring within your world. In your average world, this ring tends to hit the more distant sections of the big islands next to your starting island. So unless your starting island is exceptionally large, expect to do at least some sailing.

Once you reach the next big island, you should start looking for the Meadows biome. On your map it’s represented by the light green sections. When you hover your cursor over a Meadows biome, you’ll see it written around the top right edge of the map (1).

Approaching any of Hildir’s possible spawn locations will put a white shirt icon on your map (2). And that’s where Hildir will be living in your world from that point onward.

Hildir’s camp is protected by a shimmering dome that protects everyone inside it from being attacked by Valheim’s hostile creatures. The seamstress lives inside it together with her two pet Lox – Blåbär and Hallon. In case you were wondering, yes, you can pet them both.

Finding Hildir by Looking at the World Map

If you want to skip the part where you have to visit multiple instances of a biome that no longer holds any rewards for you, you can instead go to valheim-map.world. This site will let you upload your world files and see exactly where you need to go to locate Hildir.

Since there’s no reason to go through the trouble of figuring out your exact world seed, you can simply upload your world files to the site (3) by following the simple instructions it gives you (4), and then check Hildir in the menu on the left (5). This will get you all her possible spawn points. Pick one, go there, and you’ll find Hildir.

Doing Hildir’s Quests

When you initially find Hildir, she won’t have a lot to offer to you in terms of clothing. To unlock her full selection, you’ll need to perform a series of quests for her. These quests involve going into special dungeons, defeating the mini-bosses waiting for you there and then bringing the chests they drop back to Hildir.

To unlock these quests, you need to interact with Hildir’s Map Table (6). You can’t miss it – she stands right beside it. When you use the map table, you will register the chest locations. These will now be represented by white exclamation marks on your map (7). Hildir has three types of chest – Brass, Silver, and Bronze. Each of them will spawn three times in your world, but you only need to deliver one of each chest to Hildir to unlock all of her wares. If you do get the rest, you might as well use them as decorations for your base.

Keep in mind that you won’t be able to send a chest through a portal while using the default game settings, so get ready for quite a bit of sailing if you want to help Hildir out. Here’s a quick checklist you might find useful if you want to complete Hildir’s quests:

If you’re considering Hildir’s quests, you should know that picking up her chests will unlock new world events where your base will get raided by Hildir’s dungeon mini-bosses. That’s what you get for grabbing a dwarf’s chest.

Trading with Hildir

Hildir is mainly a clothing vendor. The clothes she sells will let you look stylish while you’re taking care of your base and will grant you a stamina bonus when performing various base-related activities. As of Patch 0.219.13, she also starts selling a Harvest set after you bring her Brass Chest back to her. When you wear this set (Harvest Tunic or Harvest Dress together with the Straw Hat), your Farming skill will go up by an impressive 25 points.

Beyond just clothes, Hildir also sells Sparklers and Fireworks to celebrate your victories. And perhaps of more importance, she sells the Iron Pit item that will let you create fires inside your buildings without having to dismantle the floor. And as a cherry on top, she also offers the Barber Kit. This thing will let you craft the Barber Station and adjust your character’s hairstyle.
