When you begin your Valheim journey, your fresh Viking will have a limit of 300 units of carry weight. This is more than enough when you’re wearing a loincloth and using sticks you’ve picked up from the ground as weapons. But once you start wearing heavy armor and venturing outside the safety of your base in search of resources, those 300 units are going to run out fast. This guide will help you increase your characters’ weight limit.
Briefly, here are the ways you can increase your carry weight in Valheim:
Megingjord Belt
Mead of Troll Endurance
Fader Forsaken Power
Corpse Run buff
For details on how to access all of these different options, read on!
Megingjord Belt
Most ways to increase your carrying capacity in Valheim are temporary. The one exception is the Megingjord Belt. Megingjord gives you “superhuman strength” and raises your maximum carry weight by 150 units to a total of 450.
Valheim classifies Megingjord as an accessory. This means you’ll be able to wear it together will all your armor and capes. The only other pieces of equipment it conflicts with are the Wishbone and Wisplight. Wishbone helps you find Silver deposits and assorted treasures, while Wisplight helps you navigate the Mistlands biome. Outside of these edge cases, you’ll be able to wear Megingjord at all times to enjoy your 450 carry weight limit.
To get your hands on Megingjord, you will first need to discover Haldor, the first of the game’s NPC traders. You can check out our guide on how to find Haldor if you haven’t done so already. Megingjord costs 950 Coins, which is quite expensive, but the extra 150 carry weight units are definitely worth it.
Mead of Troll Endurance
A relatively recent addition to the game, Mead of Troll Endurance was added to Valheim with The Bog Witch update. Check out our guide on how to find the Bog Witch if you haven’t already found this swamp-dwelling trader yet.
Once you do, you’ll be able to purchase Powdered Dragon Eggshells from her at the cost of 5 for 120 Coins. This will allow you to create a Mead Base you can then turn into Mead of Troll Endurance. A tankard of Mead of Troll Endurance increases your carry weight by 250 for 5 minutes.
Here’s the full recipe to craft Mead of Troll Endurance:
x2 Trollfish
x10 Honey
x1 Powdered Dragon Eggshells
Since one Mead Base gives you six tankards of Mead, this means those 120 Coins essentially buy you 30 Meads of Troll Endurance.
For the other ingredients required to brew this Mead, you get Honey from Beehives, and you get Trollfish by fishing in the Black Forest Biome using Mossy Fishing Bait (combine Fishing Bait and Troll Trophy at the Food Preparation Table).
Put the ingredients in the ketill. Then ferment the base for 2 in-game days.Making the right bait for the Trollfish.
Fader Forsaken Power
You will be getting this bonus super late in your Valheim journey, but it may help you transport some truly heavy stuff. When you defeat Fader, the main boss of the Ashlands biome, you will unlock his Forsaken power.
Activating Fader’s Forsaken power (via the F key by default) grants you 300 extra carry weight and 10% bonus movement speed for 5 minutes.
Even when it’s not activated, you can see the effects of your selected Forsaken power on the Active effects page of the in-game compendium.
Corpse Run
This is less of a reliable way to increase your carrying limit and more of a situational buff where at times you might notice having more carry weight than usual and not know where the bonus came from.
When your character dies, you will need to get back to where you fell and pick up all your gear. When you do, you will receive the Corpse Run buff for 50 seconds. Here’s the list of what this buff does for you:
Run stamina usage: -75%
Max carry weight: +150
Damage modifier: Resistant vs Blunt
Damage modifier: Resistant vs Slash
Damage modifier: Resistant vs Pierce
Jump stamina usage: -75%
You’ll notice that on top of everything else, Corpse Run grants a 150 bonus to your carry weight. This is why right after dying you may notice having carry weight of 600 while only wearing your Megingjord, or 450 before you even put it on.
When you fall, you go back to the base 300 carry weight.Pick up the gravestone to recover your gear and get the Crospe Run buff.Everything Corpse Run gives you.
In the end, with all buffs active, your carry weight can reach a whopping 1150 in Valheim.
This won’t last, but even without Corpse Run you can reach 1000 carry weight for extended periods of time.
We hope this guide helped you achieve your peak form and made transporting your loot across the world easier for you. If you know any other tricks to increase your carry weight in Valheim, don’t hesitate to let us know.
