The Scythe is a tool that allows you to quickly harvest large quantities of crops. Before you can craft it, you’ll need to discover the Bog Witch trader in the Swamp to buy a Scythe Handle.
How to Craft
You will need a level 2 Forge, 6 Silver and a Scythe Handle to craft a Scythe
Silver is mined as Silver Ore from Silver veins in the Mountain biome, then processed at a Smelter
Scythe Handles are sold by the Bog Witch trader for 200 Coins
When you decide to take your farming to the next level, you’ll want to craft a Scythe to speed up your crop harvesting. To do so, you’ll first need to find the Bog Witch trader in the Swamp. When exploring that biome, be on the lookout for the white cauldron symbol on your map. When it appears, you know that the witch is nearby. Check out our guide on how to find the Bog Witch for additional details.
Interact with the Bog Witch when you find her to open her shop. Among her goods, she’ll be selling a Scythe Handle for 200 Coins. Purchase it. You get Coins by raiding chests and as drops from certain monsters. You can also sell your precious gems to the Bog Witch or other traders to get more Coins.

Silver is found in the Mountain biome. You’ll need to equip the Wishbone tool dropped by the Bonemass, the Swamp biome boss. Whenever you’re near a Silver vein with the Wishbone equipped, you’ll hear a plinking noise and see a visual effect. The closer you are to a vein, the faster you’ll plink. When you think you’re close enough, get your pickaxe and start hitting the ground to uncover the Silver vein. After harvesting the vein, take the Silver Ore you get to a Smelter (Stone x20, Surtling Core x5) to process it into actual Silver.

Take a Scythe Handle and 6 Silver to a level 2 Forge (Stone x4, Coal x4, Wood x10, Copper x6). You’ll need at least one Forge improvement to get it to level 2. Perhaps the easiest one to build are the Anvils (Wood x5, Bronze x2). Interact with the Forge and locate the Scythe in its crafting menu. Then, hit the big Craft button and after a second, you’ll have a brand-new Scythe in your inventory.

How to Upgrade
After crafting a Scythe, you can upgrade it at a Forge. Upgrading the Scythe doesn’t change its functionality in any way. It just increases its overall durability. Since you expend durability for every action you perform with a Scythe, upgrading it helps you to harvest more before having to repair your Scythe back at a Forge.

Before you can upgrade your Scythe, you’ll need to make sure your Forge is properly upgraded. You’ll need at least a level 4 Forge to fully upgrade a Scythe. This means building three or more Forge improvements and placing them near your Forge. Once that’s done, open the Forge crafting menu, then select the Upgrade tab. Select the Scythe, make sure you have the necessary Silver in your inventory, then hit the Upgrade button. Do this twice to fully upgrade your Scythe.

How to Use
Using a Scythe is very easy. Simply equip it by either putting it on your hotbar or right-clicking it in your inventory. Then, approach your farm with crops ready for harvest and click the left mouse button to use your Scythe. Your character will swing the Scythe in a wide arc, harvesting all the crops in its area of effect.
As your Farming skill goes up, the area of effect of your Scythe swings will increase while the stamina required for them will decrease. The only other thing to keep in mind is that you won’t be able to harvest Jotun Puffs and Magecaps with a Scythe. The game classifies them as mushrooms, so you’ll have to manually gather them.
