Food Preparation Table is an advanced cooking station that serves a multitude of purposes. The main one is assembling advanced meals before you bake them in an oven. You’ll mostly be doing that after reaching the Plains, however. Before that, since you won’t have to go past the Swamp biome to build a Food Preparation Table, you’ll be able to use it to create special fishing baits, process Raw Fish, and even set up some early Feasts. With that in mind, here’s what you’ll need to assemble a Food Preparation Table:
Iron is created from Scrap Iron mined from Muddy Scrap Piles in the Sunken Crypts dungeons in the Swamp
Finewood is gathered by chopping down Birch and Oak trees in the Meadows and Plains biomes
Leather Scraps are a guaranteed drop from Boars in the Meadows
In order to progress to the Swamp biome, you’ll need to defeat the Black Forest boss – the Elder. This boss will drop a Swamp Key among other things. Use this key to enter the Sunken Crypts dungeons in the Swamp. Inside, you’ll find plenty of Muddy Scrap Piles. Mine them with a pickaxe to get Scrap Iron. You’ll then need to process that Scrap Iron into actual Iron. You do that at a Smelter (Stone x20, Surtling Core x5) that uses Coal as fuel.

Finewood is a special kind of lumber you’ll find in Birch and Oak trees. These trees are found in the Meadows and Plains biomes. In order to chop them down, you’ll need at least a Bronze Axe.
Leather Scraps can be obtained from multiple sources, including while mining Muddy Scrap Piles. However, the easiest and most reliable way to get them is to hunt Boars in the Meadows biome. These beasts are guaranteed to drop some Leather Scraps when slain, and can even be tamed and bred to get easy access to their resources.

Once you’ve gathered 5 Iron, 20 Finewood, and 15 Leather Scraps, head to your designated kitchen area. Open the Hammer crafting menu and go to the Crafting tab where you’ll find the Food Preparation Table. Keep in mind that you’ll need to set up a Workbench nearby first.
Once the Food Preparation Table is selected, place it on a flat surface. You might need to use the mouse wheel to rotate it to find a good spot. An important thing to remember is that while you can place a Food Preparation Table wherever, as long as there’s a Workbench nearby, in order to work, Food Preparation Table needs to be placed inside, or at least have a roof over it.
