Cooked Serpent Meat is what you get after processing the meat dropped by the Serpents found in the Ocean biome.

Acquisition

  • Serpents live in the Ocean and spawn only at night or in daytime when it’s raining or there’s a storm out
  • If slain in deep waters, the loot from a serpent sinks, so make sure you’re fighting them closer to the shore
  • It takes 60 seconds for Serpent Meat to cook
  • You will need an Iron Cooking Station to prepare Cooked Serpent Meat

Serpents are the scourge of the Ocean, always there to prevent you from exploring the distant shores before you’re ready. It’s inadvisable to tackle serpents on a raft, and instead you should at least have a Karve ship when venturing out on the open sea. When sailing at night or when it’s raining, you will occasionally be attacked by serpents. They will circle around your boat, crashing into it with the intention to sink you.

If you want to fight back, you will need a ranged weapon, and ideally some friends. Simply defeating a serpent is not enough to get your hands on its resources. You need to either lure it into the shallow waters near a shore, where the loot won’t sink, or use an Abyssal Harpoon (Finewood x8, Chitin x30, Leather Scraps x3) to drag it out of the water. Defeating a serpent will grant you around 6-7 Serpent Meat.

Take this Serpent Meat to an Iron Cooking Station (Iron x3, Chain x3) placed over an open fire and put it on. It will take you 60 seconds to cook your Serpent Meat. But if you leave it on the fire for too long, it will turn into Coal.

Uses

  • Food
  • Ingredient in food or feast

Food

While you can eat it as is, Cooked Serpent Meat is really intended to act as an ingredient in better food, hence its greater than usual weight and stack size. If you do have to eat it in a pinch, Cooked Serpent Meat will raise your health by 70, stamina by 23, and health regeneration by 3 hp/tick for 25 minutes. To eat it, just right click it in your inventory screen. You can combine Cooked Serpent Meat with up to two other foods, but can’t eat more than one Cooked Serpent Meat at a time.

The buff Cooked Serpent Meat provides will initially grant you the full effects, but will grow weaker overtime. When there’s just 50% left in its duration, or 12.5 minutes, the buff’s icon will start flashing and you’ll be able to eat another Cooked Serpent Meat.

Cooking & Feasts

The main use for Cooked Serpent Meat is an ingredient in Serpent Stew, and as of the Bog Witch update, one of the game’s Feasts. Check out the Recipes section for additional information.

Helpful Tips

  • Serpents that spawned at night will despawn during the day.
  • When you drag them to the shore, serpents will attempt to flee into deeper waters.
  • If you leave Serpent Meat on the fire for too long, it will turn into Coal.
  • An Abyssal Harpoon is pretty much required if you want to reliably catch serpents.
  • Cooked Serpent Meat weighs 10.0 per unit, making it extremely impractical as a meal when out exploring.
