Cooked Deer Meat is a simple early-game recipe that requires you to either be stealthy or have a bow to hunt the deer inhabiting the Meadows and Black Forest biomes.

Acquisition

  • Cooked Deer Meat is produced by grilling some Deer Meat on a Cooking Station over a Campfire
  • It takes 25 seconds for Cooked Deer Meat to cook
  • If you leave it cooking for too long, it will turn into Coal

If you want some Cooked Dear Meat, you will first need to get the Deer Meat to cook. It’s dropped by the deer you can spot running around the Meadows and Black Forest biomes. Deer are peaceful critters that will run away whenever you get too close. As such, if you want to hunt them, you will either need to be stealthy, have a lot of stamina to catch up to your prey, or just have a bow.

Simply throw the Deer Meat on a Cooking Station (Wood x2) over a burning fire and wait 25 seconds. But don’t forget to grab the cooked meat. If you leave it there for too long, it will turn into Coal.

Food

Once you get some Deer Meat, cook it and eat it, your health will increase by 35, stamina by 12, and health regeneration by 2 hp/tick for 20 minutes. When you want to eat your Cooked Deer Meat, right click it in your inventory. You can eat it together with up to two other food types, but you can’t eat more than one Cooked Deer Meat at a time.

The bonuses Cooked Deer Meat provides start out at their listed value, but wane over time. After the buff has been active for 50% of its duration, or 10 minutes, the buff icon will begin blinking, allowing you to eat another Cooked Deer Meat and refresh its effects.

Cooking

Cooked Deer Meat can be made into a stronger food and also be used as part of one of the game’s Feasts. You can learn more about that in the Recipes section below.

Helpful Tips

  • Deer are timid creatures that live in the Meadows and Black Forest biomes.
  • Stronger Deer, those with one or two star ratings, drop more meat.
  • Regardless of their star rating, Deer will run away whenever you get near, so it’s advisable to use ranged attacks when hunting them.
  • If you really need some Coal before you have access to a Charcoal Kiln, you can intentionally overcook some of your Deer Meat.
