Butcher’s Table is a Mountain-tier Cauldron improvement that unlocks a number of new cooking recipes.

How to Craft

  • A Butcher’s Table is crafted from 2 Ancient Bark, 4 Corewood, 4 Finewood, and 2 Silver
  • The different types of wood can be found throughout the earlier biomes, while Silver requires exploring the Mountain
  • You will need at least a Bronze Axe and Iron Pickaxe to obtain the necessary ingredients

The Cauldron is a cooking station that stays relevant throughout the game thanks to its numerous improvements. Once you reach the mountain biome, you’ll be able to craft a Butcher’s Table that, together with the Spice Rack from the Swamp, can raise your Cauldron level to 3.

  • Ancient Bark is obtained from the Ancient Trees found in the Swamp
  • Corewood can be found in the Black Forest by chopping down some Pine trees
  • Finewood is harvested from the somewhat rare Birch and Oak trees you’ll find in the Meadows and Plains biomes
  • Silver is mined as Silver Ore in the Mountain biome with the help of the Wishbone tool

You will need three different kinds of wood to craft a Butcher’s Table. Finewood is abundant in the Plains biome, but you can also find some in the Meadows. Be on the lookout for the Birch trees that are white with black spots. You can also get Finewood from Oak trees that are much wider than the common Beech trees found in the Meadows. Keep in mind that you’ll need at least a Bronze Axe to harvest these advanced trees.

To get some Corewood, you’ll need to visit the Black Forest and chop down some Pine trees. You’ll recognize them by their tall and narrow trunks. And Ancient Bark is found in abundance in the Swamp biome as a drop from the gnarled Ancient Trees.

Since the Butcher’s Table is a Mountain-tier upgrade, you will need to visit that biome to get your hands on some Silver. First, you will need to mine Silver Ore. It’s hidden under the ground and to find it, you will need the Wishbone tool dropped by the boss of the Swamp biome – the Bonemass. When you equip this tool, you will get an audio and visual effect when you’re near a hidden object, like a Silver vein in the Mountain biome. The closer you are to a vein, the faster your Wishbone blinks. When it blinks really fast, start hitting the ground with your pickaxe and you’ll soon uncover the vein. After you mine some Silver Ore, you will need to process it at a Smelter (Stone x20, Surtling Core x5) to turn it into workable Silver.

How to Place

  • A Butcher’s Table needs to be placed close to your Cauldron
  • Before you can place a Butcher’s Table, you will need to set up a Workbench nearby

When you have the necessary resources, go to your Cauldron. In the Hammer crafting menu, go to the Crafting tab and find the Butcher’s Table. Select it and place it in the world.

Before you do that, make sure there’s a Workbench close by. If you’re doing something wrong, the game will tell you, but in general, the Butcher’s Table isn’t too particular about where it goes. You can put it on the floor or even just on the ground without much issue.

When you successfully place a Butcher’s Table, the number in the star in the upper right corner of the Cauldron cooking menu will go up by 1, unlocking access to new recipes for you.

Helpful Tips

  • While you’re supposed to upgrade the Cauldron as you advance through the biomes, the order in which you build your Cauldron improvements technically doesn’t matter – they all increase the Cauldron level by 1
  • You’ll usually need to gather some of the ingredients for a recipe before it unlocks in your cooking menu
  • You can rotate the Butcher’s Table with your mouse wheel before placing to find the right spot for it
