Welcome to Hell, Divers – Helldivers 2 Galactic War Report 2/24/24

Helldivers! Coming to you from the SES Herald of Truth, this is the first Galactic War Report for Helldivers 2.

Since launching on February 8th, the second Galactic War has seen Helldiver counts steadily rise to previously-unimagined levels. In light of this incredible boost to recruitment, and in celebration to Arrowhead Game Studios for finally authorizing the shipment of up to 700,000 Helldivers at once, officials at Super Earth have authorized us* to provide regular updates on the state of the front, updates to the game, new content, and major orders — at least until the bugs overrun our comms post.

For the first Galactic War Report, we have news on both major fronts. For ease of reading and distribution, we’ve compiled the full report into an image below.

As can be seen on the map above, in the eastern sections of the galaxy, the forces of Super Earth have managed steady progress pushing the Terminid scourge back to their home system for quarantine, liberating several planets along the way. Helldivers have nearly cleared the Umlaut Sector, and have begun a slow-but-steady campaign to conquer the Mirin and Draco sectors as well.

At the same time, however, the previously-controlled Automaton forces have begun a brutal offensive against Super Earth, causing massive planetary battles to break out across the western edge of the galaxy. While we have managed to preserve democracy on planets like Mantes during these assaults, planets like Troost are falling fast, and are desperately in need of Helldiver reserves.

In light of these attacks, command has put out a Major Order to all Helldivers units to help defend against the Automaton attacks. This should not dissuade Helldivers from also taking the fight to the bots, as planets like Estanu and the infamous Malevelon Creek maintain strong fronts for our forces.

In direct news from the front, Helldivers 2 has been receiving regular updates, but 1.000.12 should be the most important yet. While the Patch notes are only 2 lines, those 2 lines are very important:

  • We have raised the server cap!
  • Fixed issue where some players would get stuck in cinematics for an extended period of time.

That’s right, Helldivers; the server cap has finally been raised. Previously, the maximum amount of Helldivers that the servers could accommodate was approximately 100,000 across both PC and PlayStation. However, due to the unprecedented success on the part of Super Earth in recruiting new players at the dawn of this war, concurrent player counts on Steam alone reached over 450,000 concurrent players, without even counting PlayStation players.

This led to the servers reaching maximum capacity daily, leading to some players being stuck on the loading screen for the game for minutes or hours at a time while they waited for the servers to have space. Despite this, Helldivers 2 still continuously reached new player counts almost daily since launch.

Now, with the server capacity raised to about 700,000, players should have a much easier time entering the game, especially after Patch 1.000.11’s introduction of a 15-minute AFK timer preventing unpatriotic divers from hogging spots while standing, motionless, on their ships.

With Patch 1.000.12, the developers also reassured players that they are aware of and working on fixes for the following issues:

  • No text is present for the Requisitions and Social Menu on the Player HUD
  • PS5 players may encounter error code 10003001 on the login screen.
  • Login rate limiting when many are logging in at the same time.
  • Players can become disconnected during play.
  • Rewards and other progress may be delayed or not attributed.
  • Various UI issues may appear when the game interacts with servers.
  • Pick-up of certain objects in-game may cause characters to freeze in place for an extended period of time.
  • Some games would not be joinable by others for a short period of time during heavy load.
  • Other unknown behaviors may occur.
  • Japanese VO is missing from intro cutscene and Ship TV.
  • Armor values for light/medium/heavy armor do not currently function as intended.

While we have not been given a timeline for these fixes, the hard-working developers at Arrowhead Game Studios are working around the clock to patch them. With the rate that they’ve been releasing patches, it shouldn’t be too long. For now, though, I’m just glad we can finally get the full force of Helldivers to the front.
