Xur’s Permanent Location in the Tower Bazaar – Destiny 2: The Final Shape

After nearly a decade of the Xur bouncing around locations, the mysterious Agent of the Nine has finally settled down. He also has an updated vendor system that is more akin to the other NPCs. This is more of a PSA (since you can find him on the map now!), but let’s jot down Xur’s new vendor changes and his new permanent location:

  • Xur is now in the Tower’s Bazaar, in a small nook to the right when entering by the ramen shop
    • He’s on the map in the Tower if you can’t find him
  • Xur now sells additional merchandise for the updated Strange Coins currency:
    • Exotic Catalysts
    • Random offerings, like ritual engrams
    • Rare Materials
    • More exotic weapons
    • Random items (called strange gifts) of modest value
  • Buying things with Strange Coins progresses his vendor track, which also give rewards like other NPCs
  • You can purchase his buff for the loyalty program called Strange favor. Can stack each week up to three times to boost strange coin drop rate.

That’s right, you will no longer have to hunt down the traveling merchant Xur. He set up shop in the Tower’s Bazaar, right next to the ramen shop (image 1). If you are having difficulties finding him for the first time, you can check your map (image 2).

A trend that Bungie has been doing is updating all the NPCs to have a similar progression and reward track. Xur is one of the last to receive a makeover, but don’t worry, his tentacle face is just as cute as ever. As you acquire his Strange Coins (which are no longer linked to Dares of Eternity) and spend them, you will unlock general rewards on a track similar to other vendors. However, a big difference is that the final reward is an Exotic Cipher.

Another interesting change are the random offerings (Gambit engrams in the image above). Each week will have different ritual engrams, so this could be a nice purchase for guardians that prefer certain ritual activities, but are interested in getting rewards without playing the others. Maybe the biggest recent inclusion is the inventory of Exotic Catalysts he’ll be peddling. These are important in making exotic weapons the best they can be, and they were random drops until now.

The other changes are less dramatic but still notable. He now sells a couple more exotic weapons instead of just one (image 3). He still has Hawkmoon with a random roll, too, at least until it can be crafted (come on Bungie, just do it already). Furthermore, players can grab random items “of modest value” for just one Strange Coin, and exchange the strange currency for materials like Enhancement Prisms and Cores (image 4).

If this new Xur menu and reward track tickles your fancy, but you can’t seem to get enough Strange Coins, then you’ll definitely want to take advantage of his “Reward Program”. This is an interesting and different NPC system that gives a stacking bonus for players that buy the Strange Favor each week (image 5). It might be best to just let Bungie explain from their 06/13/2024 This Week in Destiny blog:

Xûr will also acknowledge our patronage by offering a buff that bolsters Strange Coin acquisition. After you spend 47 Strange Coins, he will grant you access to a stack of Strange Favor. Strange Favor is a buff that offers a chance for a bonus Strange Coin to drop any time you earn a Strange Coin.

While you can only acquire one per week, it has an 11-day duration. If you keep earning a Strange Favor each week, you not only stack the effectiveness of the buff (up to three stacks), but you also refresh the duration. So, make sure to acquire your Strange Favor each week and rake in those Strange Coins.

Do you like the changes to Xur? I personally think he should’ve kept wandering around the solar system, but maybe this is easier for players. Let me know what you think in a comment!
