Revenant Trailer & Gameplay Reveal: Skill, Ability, & Ultimate – Ghosts Are Friends, Not Foes

Just in time for Elden Ring: Nightreign’s launch, Bandai Namco has released the trailer and gameplay reveal for the final — and most mysterious — Nightfarer: the Revenant. And, we’ve got to say, this necromantic, barefoot, music-loving Nightfarer seems about ready to wreak havoc throughout Limveld.

Everything about the Revenant seems to ooze style, including her necromancy-inspired abilities, to her wispy, floral aesthetic, and her magical telekinetic powers. What’s more, we get to get a good glimpse at those powers thanks to the two trailers, and they seem a lot more potent and deadly than we previously knew, as she seems to have a lot more than Spirit Summons on her side (though she also has those).

And yes, before we get into her abilities: the Revenant is yet another Nightfarer with an absolutely stellar voiceover.

The Gameplay Trailer calls the Revenant “The soul of a lady who manipulates spirits in her quest for revenge” before detailing her abilities:

  • Passive Skill | Necromancy — Defeated enemies have a chance to revive as allies.
  • Character Skill | Summon Spirit — Summon three different souls as backup.
  • Ultimate Art | Immortal March — Confer temporary immortality to living allies and revive allies in a near-death state.

And, honestly, these abilities are more than we could’ve ever expected for Revenant. Firstly, she gets not one, but two different ways to summon Spirit Ash allies: either by killing enemies and reviving them as allies or by actively summoning them. This makes it clear that the Revenant is a back-line fighter who relies on her allies — both other Nightfarers and her summons — to win.

Notably, seeing as the giant skeleton we’ve seen in all the promotional material for her isn’t her Ultimate Art, that means that it must just be one of the souls that she can have when she uses Summon Spirit. This practically assures that her summons will be suitably powerful and hardy, providing substantial support.

And then we get to her actual Ultimate, Immortal March, which makes her into one of the best support characters in the game. The ability to instantly revive allies and to make them immortal will make it much easier snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Both of your allies are down? Bring them up. The Night Lord boss is about to deliver a deadly AoE to your already weakened team? Make them invincibly. It’s incredibly powerful.

Overall, all of these ability do lend themselves toward the Revenant staying toward the back line and either using spells, incantations, or bows to deal damage as her allies hold enemy attention, firmly putting Revenant into the “support” category in most teams. Still, between her summons and her excellent Ultimate, this does not mean she is not a force to be reckoned with, and we look forward to seeing her in action soon.

What do you think of this spectral, haunted Nightfarer? Are you as surprised as we are at how deadly her summoning seems to be? Or is it her Ultimate that will really make her work for you? Let us know in the comments below!
