Wylder is one of the playable Nightfarers in Elden Ring: Nightreign. A well-rounded character without any glaring weaknesses. Wylder excels at melee combat with a preference for larger weapons like Greatswords. Can throw grappling hooks to pull enemies or swiftly close distance.

Wylder Skills
Wylder Passive Ability
Sixth Sense – Cheat death a single time
This ability can only be used once until restored through revival from death or passing through a Site of Grace.
Whenever you’re about to take lethal damage for the first time, Wylder will automatically avoid this blow. This passive provides the most value in solo play where you don’t have allies to revive you.
Wylder Character Skill
Claw Shot – Launch grappling claw to rope foes in or move swiftly by retracting
Whether targets can be roped in or not depends on enemy physique. Effective at breaking guard. Hold to aim.
If used on weaker enemies, it will pull them to you. If used on stronger foes or terrain, it will launch you forward, allowing you to quickly reposition.
Wylder Ultimate Art
Onslaught Stake – Powerful single attack that launches an iron stake with a great explosion
Recoil causes one to reel back, but preserves a portion of Ultimate Art gauge. Hold to boost impact and remain standing.
Great at staggering stronger enemies, dealing with groups of weaker foes, or reviving fallen allies while also dealing damage to a boss. When you just tap the buttons for Onslaught Strike, you’ll get a weaker attack, but Wylder will get propelled backward with the recoil, saving you from follow-up hits. You’ll also get a decent part of your Ultimate Art gauge back. Holding the buttons increases the attack’s power and keeps Wylder in place.
Wylder Starting Equipment
Wylder’s Greatsword
Wylder’s Small Shield
Wylder starts the game with a basic Greatsword and Small Shield. The Greatsword deals reasonable damage for the early game and comes with the Stamp (Upward Cut) skill. The Small Shield provides lousy protection but has the Buckler Parry skill. Buckler Parry activates faster than the regular Parry, so you only want to use Wylder’s Small Shield if you intend to parry your foes.
Wylder Playstyle Tips
Use Claw Shot to reposition by either getting close to your enemies or escaping a dangerous area
Be prepared to switch your weapons often, but stay on the lookout for strong Greatswords
Wield your weapons in two hands to maximize your damage
Use your Ultimate Art to deal damage, stagger foes, and revive your allies
Wylder is a well-rounded and self-sufficient character. With his strength and dexterity scaling, he can efficiently use any weapon he can find. His good stamina allows him to also be decent at using shields. And while he’s not great at spellcasting, he’s not entirely inefficient there.
Still, with his skills, you will generally want to aim for a large weapon that deals a lot of damage up-close. The grappling hook will let you reposition to put you in melee range of your foes where you’ll be able to unload your damage.
If you’re using a shield, make sure to two-hand your weapon when you don’t need the extra defense. This is especially relevant when you use your Ultimate Art – it has a high stagger chance. If you manage to stagger your foe, you will want to be ready to unload with as much damage as possible right away.
Wylder Team Composition
Wylder is a jack-of-all-trades character. He can work well in most team compositions. Depending on what your team needs, you can either specialize in dealing melee damage or tanking hits from behind a shield. With his grappling hook Claw Shot, he can quickly get to fallen allies to revive them, filling in for a range character in a pinch. Because of that, Wylder can work great in melee-heavy compositions, like for example:
Wylder
Executor
Duchess
These three characters work well together – they can all gang up on one enemy, allowing the Duchess to then reapply their damage with her Restage skill. With Executor’s affinity for bleeding weapons, Wylder will then be free to look for weapons with a Frostbite effect to further boost your team’s bursty damage output.
Wylder Costumes
You can purchase and change costumes at the Fitting Mirror at the Roundtable Hold. New outfits cost Murk – the game’s progression currency. More info on Wylder’s outfits to come.
