How to Unlock New Rites (New Relic Slot Sets) – Elden Ring: Nightreign

Relic Rites (colored slots) are very important for your Nightfarer, since they will limit what set of Relics they will be able to equip. However, there are options in the game for every Nightfarer making use of Relics of a different color, and this is where the Goblets, Chalices, and Grails come in. In this guide, we will go over what Relic Rites are and how to get new Goblets to expand your choices.

Relic Rites are different sets of slots for equipping your Relics. You might have noticed that the name of the menu brought up by the altar where you equip your Relics is also called “Relic Rites,” which can get a little confusing, but in this section we will specifically be referring to the sets of Slots and not the interface.

Each Nightfarer starts out with 3 slots of different colors:

  • Wylder: Red, Red, Blue
  • Guardian: Red, Yellow, Yellow
  • Duchess: Red. Blue, Blue
  • Recluse: Blue, Blue, Green
  • Ironeye: Yellow, Green, Green
  • Raider: Red, Green, Green
  • Executor: Red, Yellow, Yellow
  • Revenant: Blue, Blue, Yellow

When equipping the Relics, you will need to make sure that the color of the Slot matches the color of the Relic. In addition to the icon color, you can get the color of the Relic from its name: Yellow relics are Luminous, Green is Tranquil, Blue is Drizzly, and Red is Burning.

These starting colors are not the only configuration available for each character. Aside from the Urn each character starts with, you can unlock a Goblet, a Chalice, and three different Grails — we will discuss these in the sections below.

There are three ways you can get new Rites (color sets) for a Nightfarer:

  • Purchase at Small Jar Bazaar after defeating First Boss/Tricephalos (1 Goblet, new color set)
  • Completing Remembrance Quests — for most characters, it’s the Second one (1 Chalice, has one universal slot)
  • Purchase at Small Jar Bazaar after defeating more Nightlords: 4 unique Nightlords, 7 unique Nightlords, and Heolstor (3 Grails, slots of same color)

Though, before you get too excited, note that these will replace your current Relic set, not add to it. Their benefit is a different color combination for players who lean heavily into a single class — you are only ever able to equip 3 Relics when headed into an Expedition.

Once you defeat the first boss/Tricephalos, purchasable Goblets for all of your characters will become available from the Small Jar Bazaar in the back room.

These items will enable a new Relic Rite — a new set of 3 colors. Notice that the Goblet’s name will tell you what Nightfarer the Rite is for, as well as the colors (see the bottom-right corner of the tooltip).

This Goblet is for Ironeye, with Red, Blue, and Yellow slots.

Some of the examples are:

  • Wylder’s Goblet: Yellow, Green, Green.
  • Guardian’s Goblet: Blue, Blue, Green.
  • Ironeye Goblet: Red, Blue, Yellow.
  • Duchess’ Goblet: Yellow, Yellow, Green.
  • Raider’s Goblet: Red, Blue, Yellow.

Each new Goblet will cost you 1200 Murk.

Note that Murk is also used for character gestures and outfits, so it may be wise to hold back from cosmetic purchases until your favorite Nightfarer pick is outfitted with the Relics you want. (Remember that you can buy specific and random Relics from the Jar Bazaar also.) Or, who are we to tell you what to do anyway? Go at it.

On top of the Goblets, you can also earn a Challice for each Nightfarer by making progress in their Remembrance questline. While there is some variation in which specific chapter unlocks it for each character, the majority will unlock their Chalice after completing Second Remembrance Quest (often Chapters 4-5). Three notable outliers are Ironeye (First Remembrance, but still Chapter 4), as well as Executor and Recluse (First Remembrance, Chapter 2).

These Chalices have a special slot that none of the other Goblets have — their third slot is a universal slot that allows you to equip a Relic of any color. This can help open up some possibilities for your build.

The Small Jar Bazaar will also start selling Grails once you defeat more of the Night Lords. These Grials can be equipped by any Nightfarer, and all of them allow you to equip 3 of a single Relic color (the Giant’s Cradle Grail slots are Blue, Blue, Blue, for example).

To get these you need to defeat a certain number of Night Lords:

  • Sacred Erdtree Grail: Defeat Heolstor the Night Lord
  • Spirit Shelter Grail: Defeat 4 unique Night Lords
  • Giant’s Cradle Grail: Defeat the first 7 Night Lords

Once the Grails have been unlocked, the Small Jar Bazaar will sell them for 3000 Murk.

Once the Goblet is purchased, head back to the altar where you Perform Relic Rites and find the Rites for your Nightfarer. Once you’re on your character (where you cycle between Relic slots), simply press down on your D-Pad (or down arrow on keyboard), and your other vessels will pop up below. Pick the option you want — your former Goblet/Urn/Chalice will keep the Relics you already equipped.

You can repeat this at any point to choose between your starting set of Rites and your newly purchased or obtained options.
