Raider First Remembrance Walkthrough – Elden Ring: Nightreign

Raider’s First Remembrance sees him reminiscing — and fighting — old foes from his past. In this guide, we are going to walk you through how to unlock this quest, and then what you need to do to complete it.

For this Remembrance Quest, you will receive the Torn Braided Cord Relic, which is very strong for Raider, and will be able to continue the Remembrance Quest,

In case you are not sure what Remembrance Quests are or how they work: as you go through Expeditions you will occassionally unlock Memory Fragments for whatever Nightfarer you are playing as. Defeating any Night Lord at the end of Night 3 will always award one, but you can get them randomly as well. Whenever you get a Memory fragment, a new Chapter for the character you played as will unlock in the Journal, and some of these Chapters have a “Remembrance” associated with them, which will lead to a Personal Objective that you can complete for a reward.

For Raider, the progression is as follows:

  • Chapter 1: Complete Expeditions for Memory Fragments, defeating Night Lords to progress faster.
  • Chapter 2: First Remembrance Quest: Defeat the Onestrike Gladiator in the Tourney Between.
    • Reward: Torn Braided Cord Relic.
  • Chapter 3: Complete Expeditions for Memory Fragments, defeating Night Lords to progress faster.
  • Chapter 4: Second Remembrance Quest: Defeat the Blinding Elder Lion in the Tourney Between.
    • Reward: Raider’s Chalice.
  • Chapter 5-7: Complete Expeditions for Memory Fragments, defeating Night Lords to progress faster.
  • Chapter 8: Third & Final Remembrance Quest: Defeat White Horn in the Tourney Between.
    • Reward: Black Claw Necklace Relic, Raider Remembrance Garb.

  • Head to the Journal, either by walking up to it or in your menu.
  • Select “Start Remembrance” in Raider’s Chapter 2.
  • Speak to Iron Menial next to the large stone pillar, exhaust his dialog.
    • Speak to Ironeye if you wish.
  • Interact with the Pillar twice.
    • The first time, you will get some fanfare.
    • The second time, you will have the option to fight the boss.

In order to start this (or any other Remembrance you have access to), you will need to begin by checking the Journal in the Roundtable Hold. You can do this by walking up to it or teleporting there using your map menu in the Hold. Once there, make sure Raider is selected, move to Chapter 2, and select “Start Remembrance.”

Next, you will find yourself on the Roundtable Hold’s westernmost edge, looking out over the sea. Iron Menial will be standing next to a large stone obelisk, and you should start by talking to him and exhausting his dialog. If you would like to, you can also do the same with Ironeye, who is standing nearby and has some unique things to say.

After you’ve talked to the NPCs, you can now walk up to the stone. Interact with it once in order to activate it, giving you a little fireworks display to celebrate the beginning of the Tourney Between — a competition between the Lands Between’s fiercest warriors. Interacting with the stone again now that it is glowing will give you the option to “Travel to the battlegrounds.”

This is where you will face your first foe, the Onestrike Gladiator.

  • Defeat Onestrike Gladiator in the Tourney Between.
  • Manage your stamina carefully.
  • Keep the boss staggered using attacks, Retaliate, and Totem Stella.

For this fight, you will automatically be made Level 5, and only need to defeat this single opponent in order to progress to the next round (which happens during Raider’s Second Remembrance). For this foe, however, you should be able to make short work of him so long as you keep him staggered by your attacks and heal when necessary.

The nice thing about Onestrike Gladiator is that most of your attacks will stagger him, interrupting most of his attacks and giving you a window to keep dealing more damage. He also doesn’t have much health, and so each stagger chain can wipe out a huge portion, especially if you get a critical hit against the boss. That said, you do need to keep an eye on your stamina so that you don’t use it all attacking, leaving you vulnerable to his moves.

When you are low on stamina, it is good to use your Retaliate move, or your Totem Stella if you have it available, essentially extending your combo into those moves (while dealing massive damage and stance pressure).

So long as you keep the pressure up and take advantage of your Retaliate and Totem Stella, you will make short work of the Onestrike Gladiator.

  • Speak to Iron Menial and Ironeye if you want to.
  • Go through the Remembrance Gateway.

After defeating the Gladiator, you will be teleported back out of the arena, with a Torn Braided Cord in your possession. Once again, speak to Ironeye and the Iron Menial, who you can show the cord to for more context. Then, you can interact with the Remembrance Gateway in order to return to the present, where you will be immediately rewarded with the Torn Braided Cord Relic and can progress your Remembrance Quest.

The Torn Braided Cord is a Relic, which you can equip onto any Relic Rite that contains a blue slot. While the Torn Braided Cord will provide any Nightfarer with Strength +3, it also has an additional effect only available to the Raider: Damage taken while using Character Skill improves attack power and stamina.

This might seem counterproductive, until you realize that Raider’s Character Skill, Retaliate, has the best possible “Hyperarmor” in the game — that means that he will take vastly reduced damage while using it and cannot be staggered out of it. Because of this, Retaliate is usually best to use when an opponent is about to attack you; you accept the hit in exchange for the massive stagger and huge damage you’ll deal.

This “trade” is made much more worth it by the Torn Braided Cord, which will increase the damage you deal and your stamina limit right after using the move. Because of this, Torn Braided Cord is one of the best Relics for Raider, and we recommend using it frequently while you are learning the character.
