How to Set Up Multiplayer – Elden Ring: Nightreign

Unlike most Souls games, where multiplayer is just an optional feature with gameplay limitations, Elden Ring: Nightreign was made to be played in co-op. However, FromSoft likes to create things from scratch, so the multiplayer menu might be a bit of a mystery on a first glance — it might not be clear how to make a lobby with your friends, or how to just play solo if you prefer to take on the game’s challenges alone. In this guide, we will go over how to set up multiplayer lobbies.

It’s important to know that this game does not support crossplay, so if you want to play with your friends, make sure you all get the game for the same console. It’s also worth noting that if you’re playing on PS5 or Xbox One, you will need that console’s subscription service in order to connect with other players (any level of PlayStation Plus or Game Pass).

To begin a multiplayer match, you simply need to go to the Table of Lost Grace in the Roundtable Hold (it’s the big table with weapons sticking out of it in the main hub), and interact with it to start an expedition. You will then be taken to the Expeditions menu. Click playstation r1 button/button xbox rightbumper to go to the Matchmaking Settings, and you will be ready to start setting up your Expedition!

If you want to play with a set group:

  • Click on the button to invite your friends to form a lobby with them.
  • Once they have accepted your invite, you will see their names and character icons on the top right of the screen,
  • When everyone in the party is in, go back to the Expeditions menu, pick a Nightlord to go after, and Commence Expedition!
    • If you are playing with only one other person, after they are invited, simply make sure you don’t add a Multiplayer Password so that you can be matched with a random third person.

Alternatively, you can connect with friends using a Multiplayer Password (though this method is slower than simply inviting them to a party):

  • Type in a Multiplayer Password and set the ‘No. of password players’ to Three Players
    • If you wish to play as a duo with someone and have a random person join, set this option to Two Players instead.
  • Once the password is set, make sure everyone else in your party types the password the exact same way (yes, it’s case-sensitive) when they set up their expedition, or they will end up in a different lobby.

Once everything is set up, confirm the options, and you will be matched with your group.

If you want to be matched with random players, simply leave the Multiplayer Password empty when setting everything up.

In order to go through an expedition solo, go to the Matchmaking Settings, and scroll to the bottom to the Expedition Type option. Set this to Single Player. Then, once you confirm, you will be able to pick which Nightlord you want to fight, and click on Commence Solo Expedition to begin!

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
