The mysterious ghost lady is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a locked character option from the start. Unlocking Revenant involves a boss fight against her, and requires unlocking Duchess first. The boss fight may or may not be a little tough for you, depending on the character you choose, but we will walk you through it.
Prerequisite – Duchess Unlocked
Unlocking the Revenant does come with a prerequisite — you need to unlock the Duchess as a character first. Thankfully, if you had your first successful Expedition, you likely already have the item you need to hand to the Priestess to do so (the Old Pocketwatch) — check out our How to Unlock Duchess guide if you are confused about the steps.
1 – Purchase “Besmirched Frame” from the Jar Merchant
Back at the Roundtable Hold/your central hub between expeditions, head over to the Small Jar Bazaar merchant in the West wing.
Look for “Besmirched Frame” — the item will be available if you have Duchess unlocked. It costs 1,500 Murk (which you earn from Expeditions).
If you like its properties as a Relic — don’t worry, you will get to keep it after you unlock the Revenant.
2 – Interact with Revenant
When you are ready for the boss fight, check your Roundtable Hold map for a yellow exclamation mark (it will be in the North corner of the East wing).
Look for a ghost girl in the corner. Interact with her and say “YES” when offered to “Touch phantom?”
3 – Night Idol Boss Battle
Doing so will transport you to an arena — hop down from one rocky island to another (if you drop all the way down, there is a stream to jump back up) and head for the ruins to begin a boss fight against the ghost girl you interacted with.
In this form, her name is “Night Idol”. She will summon 3 spirits as her adds.
How to Fight the Night Idol
We have a full guide on How to Defeat the Night Idol, with lots of details to ensure success even if you find some parts of the fight a bit difficult.
A quick summary of our suggested strategy is:
Stay within the side wings to begin. Eliminate the Page first, then go after the Pumpkin Head. While fighting adds, keep some distance from the circling Night Idol.
Go after the Giant Skeleton, dodging its projectiles in the outer circle of its melee range.
Finally, use the partial cover of the side columns to confront the Night Idol in closer range.
The girl really knows how to stay alive. (Get it?)
Don’t worry — if you fail, you can simply interact with the ghost once again to give it another shot. It won’t cost you anything.
Following the boss fight, the ghost girl will reveal herself to be the Revenant, which will unlock her as a playable character.
She is a peculiar hybrid of a melee/caster with a chance to revive fallen enemies, as well as summon her 3 spirits (which you fought in the arena), and revive allies in the near-death state, while turning them and herself invincible.
