How to Revive Teammates – Elden Ring: Nightreign

First of all, to those of you looking this up in a hurry: if a teammate is down, hit them with your attacks repeatedly (the stronger, the better) until their purple bar clears up.

Also, try not to get too mad at them — this wouldn’t be a FromSoft game without the dying part, right? Thankfully, in Nightreign, you and your team are free to enjoy this part of the experience as much as you would like. After all, where is the fun in playing together if you can’t relish screaming into the mic in the middle of a major boss fight and make your friends sweat multitasking both the fight and saving your butt.

elden ring nightreign purple circle bar for reviving

When you or any ally are brought to 0 HP, that player will collapse, and a purple circular bar divided into three segments will appear above them. The character will be able to slowly crawl, but will be unable to perform any other actions until revived. In the game this is referred to as a “Near Death” state.

You can use the purple segment to determine how much damage you will need to deal to bring this character back to life. If you are able to whittle it away, the downed player will be revived. If no damage is dealt for a period of time, the purple bar will begin to refill.

Note: once an ally is down, you can use the target lock-on to ensure your attacks land, especially if you are a ranged character.

However, there is also a thinner circle on the outside of the Revival Segments. When you are downed, a shrinking meter will drain out of this thinner circle over the course of about 10-15 seconds. Once it runs out, you will die. This outer circle is disabled during Night Boss and Night Lord fights, so you can take your time to revive allies during those battles.

Note that there is no “Near Death” state for solo play (see next section).

After you are downed during the day, an ally must revive you before the thinner, outer circle drains completely, or else you die. If you are playing solo, you will instantly die when downed. Note that both the Wylder’s passive ability and the Wending Grace Gold upgrade will prevent you from dying a single time.

Good news is, the run does not end if you die during the Day. Instead, you respawn at the nearest Site of Grace.

  • You respawn with -1 penalty to your level. Note that it affects your stats and your ability to wield certain rarity of weapons, if you drop below the required level.
  • You will drop all of your Runes on death and will need to pick them up from your body. If you die again before that happens, the runes are lost.

All of your other items stay with you.

Note that being knocked down when fighting a Night Boss/Nightlord does not involve a timer. However, when all Nightfarers are down, the run is lost.

Thankfully, there is no such thing as a down limit in Nightreign — it will not incur character death. Dropping to 0 health makes resurrecting you more difficult, but only to a point.

If it is a first time that player is down, only one segment will be purple. Each subsequent time they are down, another segment will be required to revive them, up to a maximum of 3 (requiring a lot of damage in order to revive).

In other words, every time you are down you incur +1 to the purple revive meter, and after a total of 3 deaths you will not become any more difficult to revive.

This penalty can be reset by interacting with a Site of Grace.

No matter how many times you are downed, you get resurrected at half of your max HP.

You can get attacked again as soon as your recover animation is up, so you probably should roll off to the side and heal up as soon as you can.

When you die during the Day and respawn, you get all of your health back (but remember that you drop your Runes).

It should be noted that bosses in Nightreign can change targets even while actively fighting a player, so the reviving player should keep their camera aimed at the boss to make sure they aren’t being targeted. It also helps to lock-on to the downed ally as a target and dodge when seeing movement up close.

For 3-player teams: when reviving someone who is downed while fighting a boss, it is usually best for one person to focus on reviving the downed player, while the other keeps the boss’s attention.

Remember that you have a timer to rescue your ally during the Day, and even when fighting at Night the purple bar will refill if damage is interrupted for long enough — decide whether you are focusing on reviving your teammate or continuing the fight.

Make creative use of your attack abilities: Guardian’s Ultimate, Wings of Salvation, makes the character drop from the sky, deal high AoE damage, and boost ally defense upon landing — it’s a great way to both revive and defend your ally (and also protect yourself) in the chaos of battle.
